UpChuck actually responded to my email
and of course, he didn't quite get it.

RE: Question
From: Todd, Chuck D (NBC Universal) (Chuck.Todd@nbcuni.com)
Sent:Thu 10/02/08 10:03 PM

"some would say" -- interesting phrase to use to hide behind attacking me as a "tool." but whatever, the bottom line is that I'ev been covering campaigns for nearly 20 years, 5 presidentials and hundreds of senate races... you don't call an election until the voters actually vote.

To: Todd, Chuck D (NBC Universal)
Subject: Question

You're probably being bombarded with all kinds of facts, figures, and magic maps so I'll be brief. 'Some would say' that it appears you are a tool for the right wingers. 'Some would say' that it serves the media well to pretend this presidential race is a close one. How do you respond to those statements?

1. I thought that was a civil response.... and at least you got one!
The guy is on teevee every 5 minutes, and probably gets a zillion emails.

2. Anyone who implies their opinion with "some would say" is a total tool.
And hardly a journalist regardless of what they claim.

3. He doesn't have to "call" the race.
But he doesn't have to pretend it's that close, either- that's not the truth.

He's distorting your argument. A strawman.

4. Sounds like he's assuming the election will be stolen again.
If he does believe that, he should be talking about it.

8. I thought his response was fine.
It's his attempts at keeping this a 'close' race that bother me.

10. Actually I think it's a GOOD thing that the media is keeping it close!
If they portrayed it as a done deal, I suspect thousand, and maybe millions of Dems would think "Why should I bother to vote when it's a done deal anyway!" You really don't want that and neither do I!

9. haha...he responded!
I'm going to email him and ask what the heck is up with David Gregory. Even Todd conceded that Palin has not been working out quite as well as the GOP had hoped.

16. He was more civil to you than I'd have been.
Hint: if you truly want to open a dialogue with someone when you have issues with his reporting, it's probably best not to call them a "tool."

Oh, and the race IS a close one.

24. Riiiight.
The more I post at DU (and I've been here since the beginning, original nick was Not_over_it), the more I think I'd never allow most of these people into my home. Ever.

"Hey, I was a dick to somebody today, and they still responded!"

He must be so proud of himself.

have to do with claiming Obama never spoke about jobs?

I realize that wasn't the OP's question, but can he explain the intnetional distortion?

19. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
I can only assume that, since he took the time to respond, a nerve was struck and that is his way of validating much of what he says?

18. I'm sorry, but if you call someone a tool to their face, don't expect a thoughtful answer
As it happens, he was at least respectful.

I don't know what he said to set you off, but ID'ing yourself as a Democrat or Obama supporter and then insulting him is not gonna help the cause.
