Please, don't talk about a "landslide" until Nov. 5
Of course I'll get MASSIVE shit here for saying so, but I think the B*sh admin's capacity to create a national security crisis, generate alarm with de-classifying super-scary intelligence, or pull OBL out of the WH basement at the 11th hour, should not be underestimated. Not to mention OBL himself sending America a valentine the weekend before election day. We are doing great now because the focus continues to be on the economy. We are one fabricated incident away from the whole damn thing being shaken up again. Over-confidence is never helpful.

I will GLOAT like all hell come Nov. 5 IF there is a landslide, believe you me. But we are up against the scummiest of scum with no respect for human life, let alone the Constitution.

OK, now pelt away, friends... I've put on my turd-proof human shield.

1. Agree although an OBL stunt would probably look like a stunt.
This year, the repukes have been late with their stunt-casting.

2. A month is an eternity in politics
Way too early to get overconfident - but I think most people on here are aware of that.

4. well, my post is a reaction to some over-exuberence here,
from quite a few. Not to pick on any one- here is one example out of several I've observed here today:

13. a month is not an eternity in politics in October of a presidential election
year. not saying that much couldn't happen, but it becomes unlikelier every day at this stage of the game.

3. Yes, I want to save the gloating for Nov 5
I am tempted as all hell to gloat now about the strong pro-Obama trends for a landslide but it is probably more prudent to save it for the massive fucking celebration that Nov 5 will be.

Hell yeah! :headbang:

5. I suggest we not talk about victory or even polls. Much work remains to be done.

6. I agree, but not with the tinfoil Bush stuff.
I feel like Josh Lyman on Matt Santos' campaign.

9. Disagree - I'm a big believer in "thoughts become things"
The more we envision an Obama landslide, the bigger the landslide will be.

10. Thank you!
And anyone caught using the word should be made to go outside, turn around three times, and then spit.

12. SO: If we don't gloat, they won't steal the election???
I seriously doubt whether anything we say is going to make a difference on that level.

I say Gloat Away!!!!

14. The Bush administration are fuckups on a scale that has not been seen since Harding.
I don't expect a landslide, but I don't expect McCain to win, either, And this talk of manufactured national security crisis, trotting out bin Laden, etc, is paranoid lunacy. Bush has the lowest approval rating in the history of polling. He and his party are widely blamed for the bad financial situation. More people are worried about bread and butter issues than will care if they bring out the hoary spectre of Osama to say 'BOO!' right before the election.

You also presume that the Republicans actually want to win this election. I think that presumption is very possibly unfounded; I suspect they may actually want to LOSE, knowing that there are bad economic times ahead for America; better to lose now, then run in four years and blame the situation on the Democrats, than to win (assuming they could win, with the Republican brand so damaged and the sitting GOP president so unpopular).
