4. Party rivalry is just a pantomime for public consumption.
At the highest levels, politicians of any party have far more in common with each other than with the poor shlub in the street. It's a cozy little club.

8. There are always exceptions to every rule.
Those are the guys who don't get invited into the "club," so their political effectiveness is more easily contained.
