The Iowa newspaper interview was brutal. He is mad and pissed and grumpy. And is not an astronaut! Clip:

And in Indepencence Mo today at the end of the speech he does not wave or smile or anything. Just gets lost on stage and does not seem happy at all! Clip:

Maybe just bad news is getting to him or he is just a grumpy old man!

or they are pulling the money plug and salvaging what house and senate races they can.

See Bob Dole 1996.

3. Its my theory
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 12:34 PM by Jake3463
If he his assumed to lose than they will try to minimize the losses in the Senate and house to prevent super majorities.

Bailout vote was my first indication they might be restrategizing and not counting on a McCain Presidency.

6. It's a good one. Money in the GOP is not flowing like it was when there was a promised unending war.

7. That's precisely the reason
I suspect that they are waiting until after the VP debate tomorrow night and determine whether its enough to make up any of the lost ground. The window of opportunity is closing quickly for the GOP if they want to impact any of the House and Senate races with an influx of cash.

If Palin doesn't set the world on fire tomorrow night, I suspect by Sunday we will see a whole new John McCain. Except this time he's going to be completely off the rocker for having "his" presidency snatched away from him. The GOP will give him lukewarm support by mouth and the GOP bank will be closed to his campaign.

16. Yep
the DRCC and DRSC haven't raised as much as the democrats. The only parity McCain had was with GOP fundraising which can be pulled for other races. He spent this month thinking he had that as a resource. He has since done poorly. The GOP can pull his biggest resources and ground teams (they are all GOP staffers not McCain staffers at anytime) He has no control over his own destiny.

20. "No control over his own destiny" - You hit the proverbial nail on the head
The GOP knows that the Presidential race is turning against McCain and a lot of it is by his own doing (the "suspension" of the campaign and his debate performance, for example). As things start to drift more towards Obama and the economic crisis continues to be at the forefront, they are at risk of losing even more ground in Congress. Thus they have two options:

1. Keep funding the McCain campaign at the peril of the Congress, it's all stakes gamble and would carry the biggest risk politically given the current nature of the race

or

2. Cut the funds to the McCain campaign and let him sink or swim with his own cash. Shift funds to critical races that the GOP must hold and are struggling to fund at the current rate. Prevent Democratic super-majority Congress with a Democratic President, which could prove catastrophic for the GOP if allowed to happen.

To me it's a no-brainer choice.

18. If the democrats have 60 senators plus Joe Lieberman
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 01:11 PM by Jake3463
The first 2 years of an Obama Presidency will be every democratic idea for the past 40 years with no compromises. Obama's hand will be so tired from signing legislation he'll need to learn to be ambidextrous.

Trust me if the GOP thinks this is a rout they will do what they can to prevent a filabuster proof majority. Which would in effect make their Senators as Senators in name only.

14. Remember who threww McCain under the bus? Karl Rove first and
early in the week the House Republicans did it to save themselves. That was the first time that the GOP gave us a hint about their self-preservation in the House and Senate at McGrumpy's expense. :wow:
