And that's such a damn good thing. Much, much better that he fuck himself before he fucks all of us.

1. It's absurd to think a gambling addict would ever be considered presidential material.

5. True that.
Had this been 2000, with the ecnomy riding high, the general public might have been ok with a gunslinger, and the election might have been close enogh to steal *cough cough*

But this is 2008, and a heap of problems are coming home to roost. We need the smartest mfk'ers in the room, not a bunch of petulant children. I think the indep't voters are realizing this.

6. His problem is that he developed one really good trick that worked
for him in 2000 and carried over until recently--the principled "maverick" image and the openness/accessibility to the press. It was great while it lasted, but he pretty much buried it now. He doesn't have much time to restore it, or to totally re-invent himself. He tried running on experience but wrecked it with Palin, and now he's the "reformer with results" change agent, which is just silly--he's been in DC almost 30 years, belongs to the party in power, and he hasn't reformed much of anything except campaign finance law, which is MINOR. He really doesn't have anything left in his arsenal besides ugly attacks, hail-mary stunts and possibly a national-security "event" being staged.
