My facepalm-activator is anything having to do with Red Scare/Soshulism/“Democrats = Socialists = Commies” talking points. In 2008.

Dude. COME on. DUDE. I mean, when people are still believing bullshit like this in 2008, it’s really hard for me to treat any interaction with them as a serious discussion.

First of all, any sort of benevolent mix of socialism and democracy (which non-communist Norway, Sweden, Canada and much of the European Union since post-war times have carried out quite successfully to the benefit of their citizens) would never be allowed by an unbridled corporatist/hyper-capitalist nation such as what America has become (aided and abetted mostly by Republicant's).

The only thing we socialize (you know, besides fire departments, schools, police, road crews, libraries, turnpikes, the military that protects you, etc, etc) is risk and loss onto the poor, working and middle classes while privatizing all the wealth.

Communism is not going to come back if a Democrat is elected to office, and it’s patently silly and borderline immature to even suggest it.

The only kind of socialism the wealthy like is when we pay extra for our gas because their Hummers get 6 mi/gal and our utility prices increase because they consume more on a percentage basis, but don't pay for it.
