Everyday we need to treat this election like we're 1 point behind McCain
Yes the poll numbers are looking great but we can never ever let this get to our heads. We need to campaign like we're 1 point behind fighting to find that few voters we need to get us over the top. There is too much at stake and the republican party will do everything in their power to suppress voters ESPECIALLY in the urban areas that are all strongly democratic.

So even though we are looking mightily strong right now, tomorrow we could see that lead slip thanks to some bizarre campaign ad or gaffe or god knows what. Or for all we know the fix is out there somewhere, a large state close to being stolen.

So, no matter what the poll, treat every single day like we're a point behind McCain. The moment we become too complacent is the moment we'll see that victory slip away.

4. Hey, I got a motel room in Silver Spring so I'm thinking it'll happen
but I got a fully refundable room - I'm not taking any chances

6. Well, I wouldn't dare say it's going to happen, because I've
changed my thinking dammit! But I think it's going to happen also. I have a reservation at someone's home should it; what fun that could be after all these years!

But I need to concentrate on it not happening, for now. ;)

2. Agreed there is no place for complaceny
It's like track and field you have to run through the tape because the moment you let up and assume you won someonebeats you by a nose.

You are right we have to fight all the way to end as if we are behind.

3. Yep!
We are fighting a corrupt and entrenched establishment, fraud, racism, lies, power, all sorts of obstacles. We cannot let up for a second.

5. Why can't we act like we're ahead and work to widen the lead?
At some point there needs to be some positive motivations.
Not always thinking of ourselves as behind.

8. But that's the whole concept....
if we work like we're a point behind we're gonna work harder because we know we're that close to catching it. It's kinda like the Seabiscuit concept. You know biscuit, the legendary race horse from back during the depression era. Seabiscuit was most successful when he ran behind the pack a few yards and then at the end came barreling out of nowhere to win the race.

If we get cocky and laxed thinking that this race is in the bag - that's when we'll lose. We need to stay just a little bit behind, if only perceived in our minds and not in the polls, to ensure a strong run at the stretch to victory.

9. I get you. Some do better coming from behind
and others do well as front-runners.

I'm just ready for the gung-ho positive stuff :)

10. This election can always be stolen.
Even if we're ahead, we must be that much further ahead to make it harder to steal.
When the polls all read 90% Obama, we can relax. A little.

12. Totally agree. A close competitive race is actually our friend.
I think the Obama campaign is trying hard to peak during the final two weeks preceding the election.

13. If Obama loses...
If Obama loses I will forever think "What if I'd just knocked on one more door, made one more phone call."

But if he wins, I can think "It's because I knocked on that extra door, and skipped dinner to make a few more phone calls."

14. I agree 10000000%
The worst possible thing we can do is let these scumbags up off the matt.

If anybody has trouble remembering what it is like with the Republicans, just look at your 401k, look at the attorney firing scandal (& the dozens of others), remember the thousands dead in Iraq. These scumbags must go.

16. This race could likely be tied any day
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 01:16 AM by fujiyama
A gaffe here or some extraordinary turn of events could shift the race.

Still a long time to go. Confidence and optimism are key but until we see McLame conceding this race....
