2. If this is such a fucking 'crisis', they should CANCEL CHRISTMAS, if that's what it takes.

We're being sold another mushroom cloud.

How long is Rosh Hashanah celebrated? It starts at sundown and welcomes in the New Year? I think the plan was to conduct no business on Tuesday but quite frankly, if this were January 1, I'd say get their asses back to the Hill and work on a solution. And keep them there for weeks (or months) until they do.

6. O.K., I will help you.
The Jewish New Year is a High Holy Day. It is like Christmas or rather, more like Easter in its holiness. There are a good number of members of Congress who are of the Jewish Faith and they are not working tomorrow. I don't think that is so difficult to understand. I promise you, the country will still be here after the holiday.

7. It is one of the two most important holidays in the Calendar
oh to the level of Palm Sunday...

The one to the level of palm sunday is the day of atonement in ten days

And for the record, if I were in the House I'd be making calls right now canceling my dinner\ going to temple et al

13. It would depend on the crisis,
An invasion yes, something like this probably not. They did sent a commando team to rescue hostages at Entebbe on Shabbos though.

Another question I'd like to know from the "debate", since you kind of brought it up.

14. IMO they should work through all Holidays in a crisis, but they would NEVER work on Christmas
Edited on Mon Sep-29-08 02:19 PM by Hippo_Tron
The Republicans would get too much attention for false outrage about how the Democrats don't respect faith, blah blah blah.

in times of crisis, they should work through all holidays, period.
