Here's How Ya' Gotta' Play It, Joe...
McCain got creamed in the debate ratings because of his racist-looking arrogance and dismissiveness against Obama. Joe cannot even remotely appear that way to Palin (or it will be shouted as "sexism"..and you can bet the Repubs will try to spin it that way anyhow). He needs to LOOK at her. He needs to simply compare and contrast views: i.e., "Sen. Obama and I have a different view of how to build this economy", etc. Any attacks need to be on McCain's record and his being a part of the Republican Party that screwed up everything in this nation. He should never go after her or her record, etc. The people will see how stupid, air headed and what a joke she is all by themselves. Make sure the people come to that conclusion by themselves without him pointing it out. If he can come across as much of a gentleman as Obama did (and, of course, Joe is a good, decent gentleman), it's only her "ignorance" that will be enhanced and remembered from the debate.

2. He should come across as calm, cool and collected.
His superior command of the issues should be obvious to any intelligent observer.

Biden doesn't need to 'go after' Palin at all because, given enough rope, she is sure to hang herself.

3. he could even turn to her and say...
...with great courtesy: "Governor Palin, what do you think about this issue?"

The more she talks, the worse it will be for her.

6. He just needs to address her like she's a member of the audence.
Don't talk down to her, don't parse words or simplify concepts. Speak to her (and Ifill) and not about her. She's clueless, and her answers will reflect that. Biden needs to show that he respects her as a human being, but that as a viable VP candidate, she's irrelevant.

7. My Two Cents on the Subject
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 01:26 PM by Jeff In Milwaukee
Biden should have a conversation with Palin, treating her as though he were talking to a genuinely undecided voter. Agree with her on broad principles (and as Obama has said, what unites us as Americans is stronger than that divides us), but lay out an alternate proposal from everything from tax policy to abortion. Always with the idea that we both want to end up at the same place, so here's my path for getting there.

And Joe is probably wishing he could personally pocket everybody's "two cents." He'd be richer than Cindy McCain!

9. ya know - I really don't think Biden reads DU.
In fact during the primaries a Bidenite told him about our group at Democratic Underground -
and he replied - well tell them to come above ground and vote for me :P

I think Biden has it under control.
We watched him in something like 19 debates and he kicked ass in all of them.
