Why are right wingers so supportive of candidates that are blithering ignorant?
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 12:44 PM by The Craw
Be it Dan Quayle, Ronald Reagan GW Bush or Sara Palin- The Republicans have produced a number of VP and Presidential candidates that were as dumb as a bag of hammers- and oddly enough, were PROUD of the fact these people are morons.
Palin supporters seem to be proud of the fact she's a complete idiot.

I have heard right wingers defend Bush's inarticulate way of speaking by suggesting 'only liberals use big words'.(Such a right winger called in on Sam Seder's show, and condemned all liberals for using 'too many big words')
Right wingers are openly hostile to academia- i.e educated people.

Why..or rather how could anyone hold pride in the fact that these candidates are so ignorant?

I would never have thought it possible, but Sara Palin may be even less bright than the shrub.

4. They like personalities, characters, symbolism, image, and figureheads.
They have confidence that whoever ends up in power from their team will further the RW ideology, so individual records of competence, accomplishments, education, etc. don't matter, as long as the figurehead keeps the ideology going.

29. This is it - they know that the person at the top spot is just a figurehead
The underlings will be truly running things and all the figurehead has to do is mouth the ideology.

7. Brand name / Home Team
It's all about the label, not the ideas. They really believe that Democrats will RAISE THEIR TAXES and SPEND US INTO OBLIVION. ummmmm... Bush already did, but nevermind that, he's just an aberration on the fiscally responsible party.

Sad, but true. They still believe in the fairytales that Rush and his ilk spoonfeed them daily (assuming they're paying attention at all).

They rally around candidates who promise them that they will never have to think, because thinking is hard work for which their backgrounds have left them unprepared.

Not only do they not want to use their brains, they actively resent anyone who does.

19. I know, right? If these people were going to hire a plumber, wouldn't they want a
qualified plumber who knew MORE about plumbing than they did? Or do they say, "You don't know shit about plumbing but you seem like a nice guy to have a beer with so YOU'RE HIRED!"

I want a president who is a helluva lot smarter than I am, one who's capable of being a kick-ass president. Why would anyone want less?

25. Because these people are just figureheads, they pick the really dumb
one because they are easily manipulated. If you were in a position of shadow power wouldn't you want a candidate who is so un-evolved that they actually think the world is 6000 years old and that humans shared the earth with dinosaurs? I mean really how easy is it to manipulate a hard core fundamentalist? You only need to press one of 3 buttons, Muslim Extremist, Abortion, or Homosexuals. You tie anything you need to one of these 3 issues and you have a fundamentalist ready to do whatever you tell them.

26. Republicans come in two flavors
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 07:54 PM by nam78_two
1) Stupid, ignorant assholes and 2) Rich, cynical, manipulative assholes who like to use the stupid, ignorant assholes.
Palin appeals to the first kind because: a) she is like them and b) they are too stupid to realize that being like their own stupid, ignorant selves is non-ideal in a president/vice president.

There was a study in Nature a while back about people's perceptions about their own capabilities and they found that there are highly competent people who quite appropriately have a great degree of confidence in their own abilities. Then there are people who aren't that competent but they are smart enough to realize the extent of their abilities and their own limitations-this is probably where most of us lie. Then there are the people who are incompetent and yet do not even realize they are incompetent and therefore have an insanely arrogant degree of confidence in their own non-abilities. These are largely the Freepers. They are stupid and ignorant and too stupid and ignorant to recognize stupidity and ignorance or to realize that these are undesirable qualities in our elected officials.

The second class of Repuke (imo almost the more dangerous and toxic variety a la Gingrich and Rove)consists of highly intelligent, predatory assholes, who don't mind utilizing the dumbasses to gain power.

27. The reason is simple and appalling.......
they believe the majority of americans are complete fucking morons. They think a moron is all i can or all i WANT to identify with. Any time i see a someone who couldn't pass a GED exam campaigning i feel sick and insulted. And if the voting right had an ounce of self respect, it would be even more outraged than I am. Or maybe they just don't know the difrence.....
