What in the world do Republicans think "Victory" in Iraq looks like?
When every one in Iraq is dead?

When everyone in Iraq is cheering because we haul our miserable asses out of there?

When we have 50+ embassies with craps tables in every one?

What the hell is VICTORY?

1. A question they won't take or answer.

edit to add:
Considering that the government we installed has signed deals with most of our enemies, one really must wonder what kind of "victory" they envision.

7. That's what I was going to say.
When Exxon, Chevron, Shell, and the other oil criminals are pumping full tilt with all the profits going into their bank accounts....that will be victory to them.

4. Maybe Obama should ask McCain that question instead of saying "I agree John."

5. There was never going to be a victory. There is only keeping the violence contained.
The violence has not gotten worse but "victory" means there will always be a shaky "democracy". We need to get out asap. The longer we stay the longer this farce continues.

8. The problem is, Obama cannot directly say "There is no victory"
He cannot frame it as "There is no victory in Iraq" (which we know is true, and I'm sure he does), because the perception would be that he is undermining the troops.

He's got to use more finesse and phrase it like: "What is the end game?" OR "Our mission at the moment is not clear, while in other places it is starkly evident".

12. I think Obama needs to bring up the subject of wasteful spending in Iraq
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 12:27 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
If McCain wants to talk about wasteful earmarks, why doesn't he acknowledge the tremendous waste of money in Iraq? What about the missing $9 billion? What about the $19 billion that Halliburton has made off the war on no-bid contracts? What about the fact that contractors are charging the U.S. taxpayer $100 per load of soldiers' laundry to clean while soldiers themselves aren't even being provided with basic things like shampoo? What about the fact that sandbags are being hauled from Kuwait for several hundred miles by contractors to Baghdad? Returning soldiers talk about these abuses and note that outside their window there's nothing but sand. Why does it have to be imported to Iraq from Kuwait by high-paid government contractors using a lot of gasoline and trucks?

McCain wants to talk about the study of bears in Montana but he doesn't talk about the unbelievable waste going on in Iraq. Annual U.S. government funding for the treatment of autism, for example, represents about three hours of government spending in Iraq. Yet, McCain says he will not slash a penny from the extremely wasteful defense budget that goes to private war profiteers, while opposing increases in any government spending for problems at home.
