Obama misses on allowing McWar to brag about supporting troops
When he talked about how much he LOVES the troops....why not the following??

"John, you seem so sincere when you say that. I wonder, why...

Did you vote against funds for mental health care when our troops come
home?

Why have you voted against militaty pay raises?

Why were you against Jim Webb's bill of rights for GIs"

1. His biggest whiff of the evening.
He should have a notecard with a list of McCain's ratings from Veterans' organizations, and his votes against specific bills.

McCain will keep bringing this up until he gets slapped down on it.

2. Thank you!
I was hoping he'd mention that.

Every time McCain spewed those lies about helping our Veterans,
I felt sick.

:(

3. I was saying the same thing to my son as we watched. He should have hammered McCain
with the facts and exposed him as the hypocrite he is.

4. He wasn't going to give McCain an opening to say, "I'm aware of the challenges our soldiers faced...
...I faced some of my own." it would have been all over the news.

Obama avoided that and on purpose.

7. I agree. Obama was very strategic. He was extremely polite.
He didn't go for McCain's throat even though McCain gave him some openings. Instead, Obama took the high road. People seemed to like it. Every major poll gives Obama the win. The Independent focus groups loved Obama, hated McCain.

6. That and why didn't Obama go after John's flip-flop on torture?
2 missed opportunities.

8. This is major misjudgement ON YOUR PART
making that point would win the narrow argument

BUT

it would set up a contrast with McCain's POW experience against someone who doesn't have that story.

sometimes winning the narrow argument sets up losing something bigger. if Obama was behind it might have been worth it, a leading candidate in Obama's position simply does not do that.

but what do i know? you've probably managed many winning presidential campaigns.

he's got to grab that opportunity another time, every time he goes all mawkish about his supposed love for the troops.

12. that might have actually caused McCain to come the rest of the way unhinged.
I think that could have gone either way for Obama. It could very easily have been spun to be an assault on his service which could have backfired. He DID mention it, but he did so artfully and without trying to suggest that he was somehow trying to do a disservice to our men/women in uniform. obama took the high road, and I think it resonated.

14. Well, it would be perfect if a moderator asked the specific
question (about all the bills he's voted against that help vets)
