Maybe I was into it for the potential drama of "No McCain." Or I was interested in McCain doing something ridiculous and the debate basically ending on that note.
I mainly left the debate with annoyance not because I think Obama was weak, far from it. I just felt Obama was a bit too relaxed at times. I like the fact he's an easy going guy but I wanted him to be really hard hitting. Like getting McCain on the stupidity of the Korean count...I don't know where that came from. To stress the statement made by Kissinger so McCain could dump that nonsense of, "I've known him for 35 years." To attack on the torture bit. I think Obama was able to defend himself well and attack even better.
But McCain was able to take up the air time and even interrupt Obama. Obama seemed way too polite, which is his nature---but give me a break. McCain was drilling on and on and I felt at some points Obama needed to interrupt and really make McCain uncomfortable with the hard hitting facts. At times he did that, with mentioning the oil company bills, the energy bills and financial and war bills.
However, I hope in the next debate Obama takes the bull by the horns and dumps it...
On a side note...I got the feeling this was strategy. I got the feeling that Obama was softer than I expected because he was feeling him out. I felt that a lot of things were to test out McCain and see what makes him tick and also how he would approach the debate on the matter. I also think Obama's camp is listening to all the commentators and will be looking at the video, past videos, and in the final debate Obama will completely and utterly smash McCain to smitherines.
Updated I would just like to state that after reading another board where it was mentioned that if Obama became more aggressive he would appear to independents and others as beating up on an old man. I have to agree with this. We saw this with the McCain camp games. So I want to ammend my statement on disappointment to understanding the entire thing was either TACTIC or STRATEGY!!.
