Serious question. Why is McCain considered expert in foreigh policy?
Is there a real reason or is just more of the noise that passes for political commentary?
Where does this whole meme come from?

9. For 26yrs he's told everyone he's an expert and that he's a POW.
Also, someone who went to a naval academy should have a clue or 2.. seeing how he barely managed to pass, tells me he didn't care to learn too much and thought he knew more and knew better.

16. twenty plus years on the armed services committee, several hundred votes on foreign policy
Numerous overseas trips to meet with dozens of foreign leaders, countless debates on foreign policy over the last 30 years in Congress....

He may be wrong on most of the issues, but you can't say it's from a lack of experience.

27. POW. Career Navy. Long serving senator.
Crashing and being a POW doesn't really make you a better leader. His navy career(including Annapolis)was pretty lackluster. In the senate I can't think of too many initiatives that stand out except that he has completely neglected veterans. He also wants to stay in Iraq for a Brazilian years and thinks it might be worth it to go to war with Russia over Georgia.

28. Nothing, actually, but you are missing an essential point

We sent a lot of young men to Vietnam, so apparently this country is up to the gills in foreign policy experts.

You have to understand, to right-wingers "foreign policy" means "war".

They are so god-damned xenophobic that if you aren't ready to go to war with, who is it lately - Spain? - at the drop of a hat, then you just don't understand "foreign policy".

Ergo, if you flew over a country and dropped bombs on it, you have mojo "foreign policy" expertise.
