Palin Should Step Down - CNN TICKER
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 02:33 PM by Stuckinthebush

Palin should step down, conservative commentator says

(CNN) – Prominent conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, an early supporter of Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin, said Friday recent interviews have shown the Alaska governor is "out of her league" and should leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party.

The criticism in Parker's Friday column is the latest in a recent string of negative assessments toward the McCain-Palin candidacy from prominent conservatives.

It was fun while it lasted," Parker writes. "Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who is clearly out of her league."

{snip}

"If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself," Parker also writes. "If Palin were a man, we’d all be guffawing, just as we do every time Joe Biden tickles the back of his throat with his toes. But because she’s a woman — and the first ever on a Republican presidential ticket — we are reluctant to say what is painfully true."

1. I saw this -- LOVE it! Especially coming from someone who was a Palin
enthusiast at the beginning.

5. Sure, the old, "my family needs me excuse"
She won't step down. She thinks she's doing great.

3. I've never liked Parker, but where can I send her flowers?
The good thing is, Palin won't step down, so all Parker has done is weaken their ticket.

4. Very good! Finally someone that tells the truth while the rest of
them lie and spin about how great she is. Did you notice the comments under the article? I only looked at a few but they were all pro Obama!

6. Does Parker realize that Palin is representative of the Republican party?
At least the religious, gun toting wing?

God, does that sound weird. "religious, gun toting wing."

13. That's what I'm saying.
They picked her BECAUSE she was without question, one of them. But now they realize that she's not ready for prime time. Wake up GOP. NONE of you are ready for prime-time. You all gather your strength from small insular circles that rely on secrecy and blind loyalty.

Jesus. Now we're going to be accused of thinking of Palin as a stereotype. Hell, THEY picked her.

26. They picked her BECAUSE she was without question, one of them.
Republican voters embraced her without scrutiny because they wanted their own Obama. Someone fresh and different (a woman) that would add excitement to their campaign. (since John McCain clearly couldn't carry the race by himself)

What they got in their hurry for excitement was someone who's, yes, as dumb as a box of rocks. LOLOLOLOL.

Schadenfreude at it's best. They hate the fact that Obama is smart. They call it "elite". Bwaha

30. Good sir! I demand that you at once withdraw your aspersions against boxes and rocks!
Sarah Palin is a lot of things but she is definitely far below either even the lowliest corrogated sheet or granite pebble. She is much closer to the levels of sacks and hair!

For shame that we allow such horse leavings on Democratic Underground. Box of rocks, indeed!

7. Is VP Romney the October surprise? McCain will drop Palin like a used tissue if he thinks someone
else will get him back in the game. He wouldn't lose the far right because they have no where to go. He could, however, pick up the right of center independents.

14. If this is going to happen, this next week will be the only time.
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 02:49 PM by Parker CA
I was thinking about it this morning, and if Pailure is really going to duck out, this week will be a perfect chance, just before she is scheduled to appear in the debates.

If she doesn't step out this week, then she's in it until the end.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that her daughter has had some issue with her pregnancy and that she needs to return home to be with her family, or that she has had some personal issue that cannot be resolved on the campaign trail. The only problem with this is that Pailure has claimed her family is not a distraction in her ability to fulfill her position as VP and that suggesting otherwise is clearly sexist. She has herself in quite a small box right now.

After the Couric interview, it is now glaringly obvious that she has absolutely zero ability to even construct a cohesive sentence let alone to debate Joe Biden or another experienced politician. Her only options at this point are to walk into the lion's den and be eaten alive, or to bow out due to some serious family issue that she cannot ignore. Either way, she will be admitting utter failure, and McLiar will be left to yet again change the focus of his entire campaign, message, and focus.

The outs that McLiar et al have are increasingly shrinking in number. What will the Maverick do next?

9. So, McCain really went to D.C. to consult on how to
lay down these subtle innuendos?

He never really went for a crisis, he WENT to talk about Palin to his campaign staff and confidants. (Rove)

Can you tell I believe the McCain campaign office is putting this rumor out on the street themselves? You betcha!

31. the video clip that's missing from this youtube clip
I think a lot of us saw the video (parts of it shown on this youtube piece) where they said how Sarah had been a member until she became Mayor of Wasilla and then she had to step down.
Or why isn't anyone doing anything about this-her membership alone should disqualify her from being in office
It really starts about the 6 minute mark-tho interesting to watch it from the beginning.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NK2sFJebGc

And if you want to read a really scary article about these folks:

http://newsone.com/elections/article/akip-interview-on-palin

There have been real cover-ups in the McCain campaign-saying she never belonged, etc. I find it hard to believe that's true.

Maybe we really lobby to get this out starting Oct 25th

She will not step down. It would signal a huge blunder/lapse in judgment for McCain. And he would become a laughing stock.

Choosing Palin was one of many "wild" choices of his to grab attention and make headlines. It's how he's keeping his campaign alive.

18. PALIN IS NOT STEPPING DOWN.
Sheesh, there are at least 5 threads every day on either Palin steppign down, or being dropped, or Biden stepping down, or being dropped.

These are the candidates, love 'em or hate 'em. Obama and McCain are not foolish enough to drop their running mate. Can you imagine the fallout?

27. Sorry... it's just all the "stepping down" threads
about both VP candidates that's got me I guess. I know they are coming from other sources, but I just cannot imagine McCain admitting he made a mistake, and I don't think Obama even MADE one, so why would there be a change?

I mean, part of me would like nothing better than for Palin to go away, because it is, sadly, feasible that the idiot electorate will vote stupid again and she will be THIS CLOSE to the big red button. But the other part of me doesn't want that because she is such a collossally bad choice that she just looks worse all the time, which helps Obama.

25. Up until this morning, I would have agreed with you.
Today (so far) you've got Parker saying she should step down, anonymous McCain staffers calling her 'clueless,' and Saint 9/11 on the Failplane going to the debate while Palin 'watches with friends.'

Something is up. McCain's last hail Mary was intercepted, so he needs another, even bigger one. It's entirely conceivable that Palin could step down on the day of the VP debate, which would clear the way for Rudy to step in.

Sure, it would be a desperation move. but desperate moves are all McCain's got left at this point.

29. McCain could spin it as pressure - he had to let her go.
I can just hear it.

"My friends, as you well know, in the last few week, Mrs. Palin has come under unprecedented criticism and unfair treatment from the media.

Due to this increasingly unfair treatment, Mrs. Palin and I have mutually agreed that the best course for our campaign and our country is for Mrs. Palin to excuse herself from the position as my Vice Presidential running mate.

It is with great anger and sadness that we have reached this consensus, but we will continue to work together to bring our vision to the American people and we will go on to win this election."

HURL! It's all so predictable.
