the candidate has dropped out? Didn't Edwards "suspend" his campaign when he dropped out? Hillary too IIRC?

7. Right, but they did effectively dropout. That's why I think ,politically, McChicken screwed up.
It makes him appear very weak.

2. Officially, it means nothing.

Hillary suspended her campaign, but didn't end it because she still needed (and needs) to be able to raise money to pay down her debts. Edwards (I believe) suspended his campaign so that he could still hang on to his delegates as a way of being able to influece the platform.

McCain "suspended" his campaign, but then went about his merry way and nothing changed.

3. Word meanings
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less."

4. Oh, ok. I thought the term had some kind of legal meaning/ramifications.
Thanks for the replies!
