NO postponing of the Palin/Biden debate.
Whatever happens tonight- debate, Obama solo, or cancellation, the O/B campaign should insist that next week's Palin/Biden debate will occur as scheduled.

It's damned clear that the McCain campaign is shitting in their pants over the prospect of the idiot slimebag from Alaska on stage answering questions, next to Joe.

The Obama campaign should do everything in its power to make sure the VP debate happens on Oct 2.

1. There is no logical reason to cancel the vice presidential debates.
Sarah Palin has no vote on the economy bill in the house or senate. No reason for her to don her super hero costume and save the day. What possible excuse could they give for canceling?

6. Family crisis back in Wasilla, another pregnancy??
AIP is holding having their weekly bingo game and moose roast that night?

Sarah broke a nail?

Has to go to New York to appear on the Letterman show?

Needs to go to Moscow (Idaho) to negotiate a trade deal with Putin?

Need to help hubby tune up the "snow machine" for the winter racing season?

9. No. McCain is trying to maneuver it so that the Oct 2 biden/palin
debate becomes a presidential debate.

7. Her best play is to have some family emergency
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 06:14 AM by HereSince1628
I think there are probably near a dozen scenarios used regularly by my non-trad students that could be adapted to her situation...

She needs to work it so that
1) WHatever excuse it is, she is blameless.
2) She has a unique responsibility--only she can fulfull this among all her relatives
3) It's a medical crisis for a family member
4) She has a moral and cultural obligation that is more important than any debate
5) It's something that will pull everyone's heart strings

So, my bet is--health crisis with Trigger (takes care of 1,3, and 5), that requires her to donate blood or tissue (2) and Americans would hold it against her if she didn't deal with it (4)

My second bet would be a crisis in her daughter's pregnancy.

8. I believe their plan was to move the Presidential debates to that day...
thus postponing the VP debates.

4. I agree.
Hey, Palin has been giving interviews to journalists (although referring to Sean Hannity as a journalist is stretching it). There's no excuse for her to dodge this debate. Either she's ready for it or she's not. This "keeping her away from being asked tough questions" crap needs to end.

10. It's a no-win situation for McCain
She can't leave now - that would be disastrous.
She can't debate now - that would be disastrous.

Barring a stunning October surprise, how do they cancel the VP debate without the motivation being disastrously obvious? And in a world where every day brings more and more disasters for Americans, how do you even pull off an October surprise anymore?

12. Agreed.
If McCain can't face Obama, though, they surely have to know that Palin can't hold her own with Biden.
