Obama needs to look right at him and say, "It's so gracious of you to grant us some time with you, John."

Or something snappy as fuck to piss this old bastard off. He's playing too many games to not get torn apart.

1. Being snotty is NOT the way to win friends among the undecided.
Save those tactics for the grade school playground.

3. If anyone votes for McCain at this point JUST because of a flippant remark...
.... well ...... they never would have voted for Obama anyway.

2. McCain has stuck himself
no one is going to believe that he can save it by being there, so he will get no credit, particularly if it is true that his plan was/is for LESS regulation.

If he shows up, then it all looks like a stunt.

If he doesn't, Obama gets that free time.

Heck if he doesn't show up, and I'm Obama, I say well, two debates left then, town hall and economics.

No giving McCain a foreign policy debate on McCain's timetable.

4. There is no way our nominee should indulge is such immature behavior.
It is up to us to raise the bar not lower it . Obama will be very gracious no matter what the circumstance.

5. Little too snippy. He needs to say something like
I'm glad that you agreed with me that the American people deserve to see us debate. It sounds cordial, and the underlying meaning is Obama is the leader, and McCain the follower.
