...that a freeper wrote those words! (Treating spin or outright lies as proof of their arguments, poor grammar and misspellings are the other three clues. Finding all four in a post is quite common over at the free republic. It stems, I think, from a belief that education is not terribly important, ('teechers our libruls you know') and a general lack of curiosity, ('Of course Obama is going to raise are taxes, why look at his official web-site! he is a librul and there all a bunch of tax razers')
ATTENTION lurking members of the Free Republic: You know that my above assertion/snark is based in elements of truth.
1 Misspellings. Ever heard of spell check? If so why does it get used so rarely over in FR? It makes the FR look like a forum of and for illiterates*! *(Snark, but not far off the mark.)
2 Grammar. 'to/too/two'; 'their/they're/there'; 'our/hour/are'; and etc., is a confusion of words which is rampant over in FR. (It occurs here too but not in the epic proportions that it occurs in the FR.) Here, bookmark this link:
http://englishplus.com/grammar/. This is non-partisan, easy to use and a valuable resource. Pass the link around, it will aid the FR in clearing up such word misuse and much more. You will no longer be able to say: "A 'dummy' never gave me nuthing." now.
3. Incoherence. Rampant poor grammar and a near terminal plague of misspellings easily lends itself to incoherence. Sometimes I wonder if you folks are attempting to create a whole new language. No, I am not being sarcastic, there are plenty of examples of how our language is being modified due to the internet. It is possible that this is what is occurring over in the FR. If that is the case please don't get too upset when folks outside of FR find it difficult to communicate with you. (Maybe you folks can make heads or tails out of Palin's statement: "Well, our neighbors are Canada and Russia, when they are talking about air space, where do you think they are? When do that watching thing, where do the get sent from?" Most speakers of the English language are completely baffled as to what she was trying to say.)
4. Treating spin and/or lies as supporting evidence of ones position. Here in the DU when someone does this, they generally get busted for it. (Please note my use of the word 'generally'.) Take the following assertion for example: "John McCain is a hot-head that will cost our nation dearly. His 'wet start' of his bomber caused the Forestall fire!
http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?noframes;read=119707 ". The assertion of John McCain being a 'hot-head' may or may not be true but the use of a known fiction to support the assertion makes the author of the assertion look like an idiot at best! The addition of a link which promulgates the fiction is criminal! My fellow DUers hate John McCain but they would never allow a fellow DUer to use such spin or lies to support an assertion for very long. Checking ones facts in the DU is a survival mechanism over here. If the same were true for the FR, if you folks actually self policed your 'facts' as often as we do, a surprising amount of 'truths' you folks take for granted would fall by the wayside. Below I posted DU links where the myth of McCain's involvement in the Forestall Fire are debunked by fellow DUers as examples of our self policing.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6469025 I am aware that this post will be ridiculed by freepers should it be seen but I challenge you to ghost through the DU to find examples which disprove my claims. (You won't have too much trouble doing this.) Then be fair by going through the Free Republic to find examples which support my claim. Which task proved the easier?
That is all.
PS: I think it would be interesting, maybe even useful if there was a forum category shared and moderated by DU and the FR where civil debate could be accomplished. It could be a chance to bring about a much needed paradigm shift in BOTH forums.
