Did Daschle really issue this Statement about Zell Miller?
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 07:10 PM by John_H
As I was drifting off to sleep on my most recent vaction nap, I thought I heard CNN say that Daschle issued a statement about
Zell Miller. Here's as close a transcrioption as I remember:

"Today, Zell Miller, the keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention told us that he would be a Democrat until the day he died. The truth is that Zell miller long ago parted company with the ideals that make the democratic party great, and as of this moment the democratic party is parting company with him.

This election is too important for political opportusists in the republican party to use a Political opportunist who claims to represent the Democratic Party. For too long, Zell Miller has enabled George Bush to claim bipartisan support for his ill concieved and divisive agenda, from raising taxes on working families to fund tax cuts for the large donors to underfunding schools, Medicare, and even our nation's troops.

The truth is that, behind the scenes, Zell Miller has rejected every attempt the Democratic Party has to make ammends. The truth is that Zell Miller refuses even to attend the caucus meetings of his own party.

The truth is that Zell Miller is no Democrat.

Tonight, George Bush will use Senator Miller to try to fool America into believing that significant numbers of Democrats support four more years of deficts, fear, and foreign policy disasters.

Instead,George Bush and Zell Miller are showing us all that the republican party seeks not to unite America, but to divide it."

And then I woke up--or at least thought I woke up--to see what was purported as a commercial depictinf Tom Daschle hugging George Bush.

you know how sleep is: I just can't figure out which event was I dreaming and which was real.

2. That sounds very similar to what Terry McAuliffe said today about Miller
But Daschle apparently really did use a shot of him hugging Bush in an ad, as well.

4. Yeah, I guess it's a little similar. But I was all excited at the thought
of our senate leader saying something.

3. The republican party is about HATE....
They hate a huge culture group of America......the Democrats. Yes, they do this to with malice......predjudice and a vicious, destructive intent.

6. I have no clue
why Daschle couldn't deliver a speech like that.

I know he's running for reelection from a very red state, but the response you had above wasn't that harsh. It was very much in tune with something Daschle could give.

I liked the statement on the DNC site regarding Miller, but Daschle should say it too.

Either way, Daschle isn't fit for a party leaderhship position. Don't get me wrong. I don't want him to lose his senate seat, but I do think he hasn't been a very effective Senate Minority leader.

7. Speak for yourself, Tom Daschle
For too long, Zell Miller has enabled George Bush to claim bipartisan support for his ill concieved and divisive agenda.

You did too, Daschle! And you were in a leadership position and yet, you rolled over for Bush as his dog Barney.
