Anti-Palin "Wolves" Ad and Myspace bulletins, a great combination!
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 08:50 AM by DangerousRhythm
I noticed I couldn't reply to this great thread anymore and felt it needed more attention:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7091859

Since I'm on Myspace and I know some people on my friends list are very strongly pro-animal/wolf but also lean Republican, I decided to post the ad there as a bulletin, something I never do. I explained how I was sorry to have to link this video but I was so horrified when I saw it that I had to share it because as informed voters, we should all know what's going on, giving ample warning as to how awful the video is so as not to unpleasantly surprise anyone with animal violence. Anyway, I forgot to check the results for a few days, but I just visited and I saw about three or four other people had reposted it and one friend who I think was about 98% likely to vote for McCain reposted it with the headline "FUCK YOU SARAH PALIN!", clearly extremely pissed and called it horrific.

One of my friends even reposted this page in addition to the video: http://www.grizzlybay.org/SarahPalinInfoPage.htm

Yeah, I'd definitely say that ad is effective! If you're on Myspace and you can, definitely embed that video in a bulletin and of course warn the viewer that the video contains highly disturbing animal violence. What I did, just in case, was title my bulletin "Sarah Palin Champions Barbaric Aerial Hunting of Wolves" so at least THAT much would get out there, even if nobody decided to watch.

Here is the video on Youtube. The page has embedding code, easy enough to copy and paste into a bulletin.

Anyway, if anyone decides to do this, post your results here! I imagine plenty of people will have their eyes opened by this. One friend of mine wasn't going to vote at all but now she will, specifically to vote against Palin because of the animal issue. This friend is just your average woman in her 30s who's definitely intelligent but just has zero interest in politics. She volunteers her time once a week to help shelter cats, isn't a member of PETA or anything like that. She's just genuinely someone who loves animals. There are SO many people out there who are like this who we could flip to voting for Obama if they're not already, just by making them despise Palin -- quite frankly, not hard to do as far as I'm concerned, because she's vile.

Every little bit helps!

1. Ooooh! Great post! Facebook and Myspace help more than people think
I've been posting pro-Obama/Biden, anti-McCain/Palin stuff on both my Myspace and Facebook pages and it's done wonders in turning some of my friends from apathetic to promising they'll vote for Obama if for no other reason than to keep McCain and Palin OUT!

2. Thanks! And yeah...
That's the way we have to do it. It's really a heartwrenching issue for anyone who loves animals and such an instantaneous gut reaction to the violence in the ads is a VERY powerful thing. It may not get much play on TV but I really think this issue is a winner, especially since three of these friends are in the exact demographic Obama could use more of... 30s-ish white women. Word gets around and people are more likely to forward things in general, on Myspace, Facebook, through email... it could really make a difference. :)

5. Donate to Defenders of Wildlife in Sarah Palin's Name
DoW is running this tv ad in as many markets as possible, esp toss-up states, but they need our help. This ad has had a BIG impact everywhere it's been shown, but we need to keep pushing this. Think about it, even republicans love animals.

8. Yep, they're my next donation, I'm fairly certain.
I'm kind of hurting in the wallet but I'm hoping my dollars can make a difference, as much as I can give anyway!

6. I have it on facebook for sure, have to check if I put it on myspace
as well, but I think I did. I also sent the link out in an email to family members and friends and asked them to pass it on and donate to get the ad more air play. I'm going to send them more money when we get paid again on the 30th.

11. I'm going to do that. I'd be surprised if I get any responses, though.
No one ever replies to my bulletins. But if I can help get the word out, that's what really counts.

13. One more thing: Has everyone seen the full-length (10 min.) video?
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 09:27 PM by Blondiegrrl
One of the narrators, who calls the hunting "a brutal way to go," is in fact himself a hunter. You know it's bad when other hunters are sickened by it. This has nothing to do with "population control" and everything to do with trophy hunting.

Sick bastards.

In one of the videos I saw on this subject, I saw a guy saying how he loves Palin's stance on hunting because he likes to have enough meat stored up for a year, so basically screw those wolves. I'm all for feeding your family but really? In today's world, is this a total necessity and worth killing wolves like that in such a cruel manner? I'm not even anti-hunting (for FOOD) in some ways because as a meat eater I can't really be a hypocrite about it, but this just seems exceedingly greedy to me.
