McCain plays Chavez card in new FL ad

For you non-Spanish speakers, the translation is after the jump.

It's mostly Hugo Chavez attacking us "Yankees."

Sadly no mention of his often-amusing swipes at President Bush, who the Venezuelan leader has alternately called "Mr. Danger" and "The King of Vacations."

Seriously, though, this is the sort of spot that will pack a punch in Florida, where there are a growing number of emigres from South America and especially Venezuela.

I don't see how this will work. Unless there's a lot of rich illegal aliens from Venezuela in Florida. If there is they ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE VOTING!

3. I think it's a good d for them
This is a very powerful ad in the South Florida Hispanic community, with virtually all the Latino groups there, but especially Cubans, Venezuelans, Colombians, and Nicaraguans. And it's not a bunch of rich emigres -- there are a heck of a lot of folks that vote Republican against their economic self-interest, on the perception that Democrats are soft on guys like Chavez, Morales, Ortega, Zelaya, etc. Hialeah, for example, is an awfully poor city of mostly recent immigrants, but it keeps electing Republicans.
