Is Palin Power Winding Down?

Say it ain’t so? But yes, all major polls indicate today that the Sarah Palin pheonominon is so two weeks ago. Apparently, getting caught with misinformation (some would say lies) over and over and over does bring down your poll numbers. That and greatest economic challenge to our economy since the Great Depression, have given voters a different perspective on the election.

According to CNN, “The senator from Illinois is ahead of McCain in national polls by 3 percentage points, 47 percent to 44 percent. Obama was up by 2 points in the poll of polls released earlier Thursday.”

The quote of the day comes from Joe Biden, who said McCain’s economic plan is “the ultimate Bridge to Nowhere.”

One article suggests that Palin’s luster has now effectively worn off and daily media inquires into her shifting positions and claims has sent the McCain off message at exactly the wrong time.

Noam Scheiber of The New Republic agrees and writes: “the Palin pick may weigh McCain down….She isn’t fundamentally scrambling the demographics of the race, as some worried/predicted at the time of the announcement. Non-conservative women, in particular, don’t appear to be taking the bait, possibly because of her hard-line positions on social issues…”

Katherine Skiba of U.S. News and World Report noticed this same trend: “A CBS News/New York Times poll published Thursday shows that McCain’s convention bounce has dissipated and support for Palin has dropped. Her favorable rating is at 40 percent, down four points from last week, while her unfavorable rating stands at 30 percent, having risen eight points in the same period. Among women, Palin’s favorable rating has fallen 11 points in the past week, the poll said.”

What the media giveth, the media takeith away…

1. If she wasn't so scarily close to being the second most powerful person in
the world, she has actually been good for laughs while enjoying her fifteen minutes of fame. There have been so many unintentionally funny and quotable phrases that will live on beyond her.

2. Was to be expected.
Kinda like buying an inferior product based on an ad full of false claims. Once you get it home, you realize it's not what was promised.

You also feel silly and maybe even angry for being duped. ;)

4. I am going to sound sexist for saying this, but whatever...
...there are plenty of pretty women that speak well in the world. Fascination with her was bound to wear off. Still plenty of Republicans with a HO for her, but those are the same people still fascinated by Annthrax Coulter.
