Definition of "Maverick"
Noun:
One that refuses to abide by the dictates of or resists adherence to a group; a dissenter.

Adjective:
Being independent in thought and action or exhibiting such independence.

So...how can McCain and Palin be mavericks when the very sense of the word means loner.

With McCain copying nearly every part of Obama's campaign, how is it that he can describe himself as a maverick.

Open for discussion as I am confused and frankly, sickened by these two fictioneers.

Oh, and let me end by saying...

TROOPERGATE TROOPERGATE TROOPERGATE TROOPERGATE Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

1. Too bad I don't happen to have an OED on me. I seem to remember the word maverick coming from
cattlemen referring to mad cows.

5. Maverick Theme Song
I'm thinkin some really talented DUer ought to do something with these lyrics to - well - you know...

Who is the tall dark stranger there?
Maverick is the name.
Riding the trail to who knows where
Luck is his companion
Gamblin' is his game.

Smooth as a handle on a gun
Maverick is the name.
Wild as a wind in Oregon
Blowin' up a canyon
Easier to tame.

Riverboat ring your bell!
Fare-the-well Annabelle!
Luck is the lady that he loves the best!

Nachetz to New Orleans
Livin' on jacks and queens
Maverick is the legend of the West.

Riverboat ring your bell
Fare-the-well Annabelle!
Luck is the lady that he loves the best!

Natchez to New Orleans
Livin' on jacks and queens
Maverick is the legend of the West.
Maverick is the legend of the West.

3. I believe maverick was taken from a rancher in 19th century Texas
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 09:28 PM by rurallib
who would not brand his cattle because he claimed it hurt the cattle. Ergo when a steer was found that was not branded Maverick claimed it was his. Many folk thought him a no good cattle thief. And that seems to be the kind of maverick McSame is.
edit to add: I believe his name was Sam Maverick.

4. A political maverick is ...
an incognito Republican hoping to win an election without the electorate recognizing the party to which he or she belongs. Call me Senator, call me Governor, call me a maverick -- just don't call me a Republican, for God's sake. I am trying to win this thing!
