What's the deal with the "Taxes are patriotic" nonsense?
I just finished watching the McCain/Palin event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Setting aside the observation that John McCain looked drugged up something
fierce (he could barely deliver his lines and his left eye was barely open),
both of these clowns were on fire today. Palin said it was great to be in "Grand
Rapids", when she was in "Cedar Rapids."

What in the hell are they talking about when they claimed that Biden said that
"raising taxes is patriotic"?

Did others see McCain's speech in Cedar Rapids and notice McCain was slurring
his words and mangled a bunch of statements? He did not look well.

3. Biden was on a morning show
And the host asked about raising taxes on people making over 250,000 dollars, and Biden basically said that they should be expected to contribute too, and that they should consider it an act of patriotism...I have seen Biden kind of say stuff like this before, the "McCain would give his life for the country, but doesn't have the guts to ask rich people to pay more taxes", or something to that effect. I hope Biden responds to this nonsense.

6. In WWII, Taxes Were Raised and War Bonds Were Sold, But Now...
Taxes are lowered for the rich while the country goes into a deficit. There is no draft, there are no taxes, the only people who suffer are military families and our children who have to pay for this misadventure.

9. Intentional?
I wonder if it was intentional, knowing that the patriotic reference would get them all up in arms, pouncing on Joe. I hope Biden and Obama come slamming back about how it sure as hell IS patriotic to put your country above money, to contribute your fair share to help get things back on track, get out from under this freakin' deficit and everything else. I'll also be interested to see if Joe is even given the chance to respond, or if, as usual, the talking heads get all gleeful over it and take it out of context, allowing it to play as if Joe was saying it about everyone, rather than about the wealthier (i.e., $250K and up).

10. Biden was right in what he said this morning and bold in doing so
I loved that line. That's the kind of attacks Dems need to do right now. I hope Biden does not rescind that line.

It was a great counter to the Republicans's pathology that "tax cuts" are good even though we are at war.

I didn't mean "rescind" the line when I said respond...I just meant, reiterate how McCain will NEVER be able to stand up to wall street, he is chained to them. And how it's a joke to think that McCain will stand up to them, or inconvenience them in any way, when he is too chicken to even ask them to pay higher taxes and sacrifice a little, at a time like this.

McCain is interested in having everyone but the rich sacrifice for the sake of the country. Country first my ASS! Whenever I see that slogan, I think "cuntry first".

11. Sounds good to me. Paying taxes is our patriotic duty.
People who shirk that duty are greedy bastards who don't deserve all of the great things they got from this country if they're not willing to give back.

Who said that? I can't remember, but very well said and true.

Taxation w/o representation on the other hand...

14. yes
at least the Hollywood liberal celebrities that the Republicans love to spazz out on aren't putting their taxes and personal finances over their country...can't say the same for assholes like Tom Brokaw. Aren't the repukes the ones who are fans of the phrase "Freedom isn't free?" And "Leave the country if you don't like it!" I am fine with them getting the fuck out of here if Obama wins ......good luck and good riddance, folks.

13. He said that the rich paying more taxes is their patriotic duty.
You got it," he said on ABC's "Good Morning America" when his interviewer noted that Obama was targeting the affluent. "It's time (for the well-off) to be patriotic." (See the clip below.)

All they can do is lie. The truth is not on their side.

17. Biden's statement is straight from the Lakoff playbook
PAYING YOUR FAIR SHARE is patriotic.

putting the country in debt and leaving the mess for others to clean up is NOT patriotic.

25. McCain and the right wingers will try to hit us as hard as they can with us.
And while the pundits might not think it was smart to say, there stands a good chance that, in this time of crisis in which the government is bailing all these companies out, people might not disagree.

26. Thanks for the replies on this...
This is an opportunity to eloquently explain--as so many have done here in this thread--about
paying your fair share, when you have so much--IS patriotic.

It's our duty as Americans, especially if you are so blessed and have the means to do so.

Biden has an opportunity to knock it out of the park, and across the street--with an incredible,
unforgettable comeback that will make McPalin's mockery look cheap and ignorant.

GoBAMA/Biden!
