Latest On Lady de Rothschild...
<snip>

The news that Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild -- a prominent supporter of both Clintons who raised millions of dollars for Democrats over the years -- has decided to back John McCain in November sent a small ripple throughout Washington on Wednesday.

But to top aides for Sen. Clinton and other party fundraisers, it wasn't a surprise. A former Clinton staffer tells the Huffington Post that a full on persuasion campaign was waged early this week, with Clinton die-hards essentially begging the multi-millionaire donor and member of the DNC platform committee not to buck her party's nominee.

At her McCain-Palin sponsored press conference Wednesday, Rothschild denied that she had heard from Hillary Clinton at all about her impending choice. While technically true, the source said there's no way Rothschild doesn't know how Clinton feels. "Hillary's top people begged her not to do this," the source said, "and she took their calls."

The consequences of the break between Rothschild and her preferred Democratic candidate back during the primaries could be stark. "If Obama loses, what is Lynn going to do in 2012? Campaign against McCain?" the source asked. "It doesn't make any sense. ... Clinton can take her money, because everyone takes Republican money. But after November, she can't work on any of the things she cares about, like caucus reform," the source noted. "Will she get a big position ? No."

While the Obama campaign had no official response, another well-placed Democratic from outside the Clinton camp openly mocked Rothschild's move. "The Duke of York already had plans, so Lady de Rothschild was the next most important endorsement to reassure working Americans during the economic crisis," the Democrat told the Huffington Post, jabbing Rothschild's complaint that Obama strikes too "elitist" a tone for average Americans.

The Democratic source also noted a 2007 interview with Rothschild, in which she said that "we've had stronger economies, more wealth creation, under Democratic presidents than we have under Republican presidents."

The implication, of course, is that Rothschild just really really hates Obama more than she supports McCain. When asked today if her move was a personal swipe at Obama, Rothschild denied it was about personalities. She touted McCain's leadership on global warming while ignoring Palin's statements disputing the fact that the situation is man-made. All Rothschild had to say about Palin was that "she's pretty cool," and that she was happy that the Republicans had nominated a woman. And while Rothschild reiterated her pro-choice beliefs, she said that abortion was being used as "a noose" around the necks of women voters.

"And while Rothschild reiterated her pro-choice beliefs, she said that abortion was being used as "a noose" around the necks of women voters."

Of course abortion is being used as a noose, but it's not the Democrats who are doing that. We offer choice to women while mcsame and phailin' offer a coathanger. Lady Rothschild knows that her daughter or granddaughter will have no problem jetting over to Switzerland, first class, to exercise her choice so she's willing to let everyone else suffer as a "strategic" plot to punish Obama.

That piece of trash can burn in Hell.

52. Roe V Wade is a policy issue, not fearmongering. Learn the difference.
It is very true that there are currently four justices on the supreme court who openly advocate overturning Roe V Wade. It is also true that the current repub nominee and his VP pick are both adamantly opposed to choice. They are backed by supporters who are demanding it be overturned.

Yet you say that to be honest I have to say that Dems use this for fearmongering?

Have you thought that maybe we use it because its FUCKING TRUE?!

What an asinine post you created.

60. It is true that McCain/Palin are anti-choice as are Bush/Cheney.
It is true that the SCOTUS is 5/4 conservative/liberal. It is true that the same supporters that demanded Bush/Cheney overturn Roe v Wade are supporting McCain/Palin.

It is also true that The Democrats have the majority in the Senate and it is likely that they will expand that majority this election.

It is opinion that if you don't vote for Obama/Biden Roe v Wade will be overturned.

Fear mongering is used to influence people's opinions and actions based on their fears - it does not mean that the subject of those fears is not true, though it's often exaggerated.

I stand by my opinion.

I do not support this woman who I've never heard of before today, I think she is letting her anger get the best of her and is not being rational in her support for McCain. I think she will regret this if she truly did support the policies Hillary championed. But she has a point re: Roe v Wade.

64. You can stand by your opinion, but it's still wrong.
The tired argument that there'll be a majority of Dems in the senate who will block conservatives from the bench would only be applicable if we didn't have Clarence Thomas wearing those robes each day. In other words, if mcsame/phailin' get elected we WILL have another anti-choice conservative, or 3, on the supreme court. There is no way Roe V Wade or a host of other civil rights measures will stand.

Also, it would be best if you knew the actual makeup of the bench. It currently stands at 4 arch-conservatives, 1 conservative, 2 left leaning moderates, and 1 liberal. I'll let you guess who the oldest and most likely to be replaced members are.

Lastly, your statement that Dems are trying to frighten you into voting for them is really stupid. If you can look around you and still think that our warnings are exaggerated, then you don't live in America.

Obama already has a close circle of donors, so she wouldn't have as much sway as she did with Hillary (nothing against Hillary of course, it's not her fault one of her donors is a dumbass.)
