Sen Sherrod Brown: He is no maverick & from the Keating Five on, his ethics have been questionable"
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 02:22 PM by kpete
It is not so much his economic proposals but his economic record. His main adviser is Phil Gramm -- he was his mentor in the Senate -- and you just tie it all together. Of course John McCain supported the oil industry, he has oil lobbyists working for him. Of course John McCain supported these trade agreements, he has got Wall Street people working for him... It is all wrapped up together. John McCain is a creature of these interest groups in Washington. He is no maverick and, from the Keating Five on, his ethics have been questionable. He's not a maverick and Barack has got to just keep hammering on that.

5. True but playing devil's advocate there
Going after McCain on Keating 5 he could turn it around stated he was the only republican on that panel AND he was the one that received the least amount of punishment and therefore Keating 5 really was a democrat scandal NOT republican. It's a tricky path to travel and if we're going to use it, we need to use it in a way that it does not backfire in our faces.

2. Sherrod's a tough, smart SOB, and I hope we keep him front & center as a surrogate...
...along with Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Just keep hammering away, Sherrod.
