Something for Kucinich supporters to ponder - Zogby on Kuninch
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...3-2004Jan5.html

From Zogby answering questions:

Hurst, Ill.: I read and hear with frequency about voters who claim they prefer Rep. Dennis Kucinich's stands on the issues, but because of this "unelectable" tag hung on him by media the voters choose another candidate whom is deemed electable. I've even heard Iowan "experts" suggest if voters followed their conscience Kucinich would be among the poll leaders. Have you ever thought of conducting a poll that might reflect this instead of the typical "who do you think will win-type" uninformative questions? Maybe a question such as "Who best represents your ideals?" or "where you stand on the issues?" would be really intriguing.

John Zogby: Sure. We don't ask who you think will win, or when we ask it isn't important. We ask who would you vote for if the election were held today. We also ask questions like "How strong is your support?," "Which candidates do you agree with more on the issue?," "do you prefer someone who stands for what he believes though may not win versus someone who is not entirely with you on issues but you believe can win?" In every instance we see a little bump higher for Kucinich but not a huge bump. I will say this, I think that Dennis Kucinich will do better in Iowa than the polls are showing but I don't think it will be enough to be a serious contender for the nomination.

1. And another notable: Zogby on Greens
New York, N.Y.: Mr. Zogby,

How does the defection of Green Party voters back to the Dems figure in your polls?

John Zogby: Anything that moves voters by a few hundred or a few thousand in key states could change the election. Make the blue states even bluer. Will they be energized is the issue.

3. My state was just blue by the narrowest of margins.
Now Kucinich is pulling Greens in in droves. Hey, Zogby, listen up.

4. heres the thing
what you just posted leads me to believe Dennis results will be SIGNIFICANTLY higher than predicted...those "greens making blue states even bluer", are by and large Dennis voters

I appreciate your post, thanks:)

7. On the mark
My assessment is well expressed by John Zogby's words: "I think that Dennis Kucinich will do better in Iowa than the polls are showing but I don't think it will be enough to be a serious contender for the nomination."

This is much closer to reality than fantasies about placing third. Where I differ with the pollster, I'm sure, is in my willingness to suspend disbelief to allow for the possibility that Dennis can "surge late" (a la Seabiscuit) as he has predicted. I refuse to predict when or where, because this possibility depends on a chain of events outside normal life. It depends on primary voters, somewhere in the next two months or so, actually taking heart from Kucinich's persistence and then suddenly acting on their hopes in huge numbers.

When or where? (Who will go first?!)

But it won't be Iowa. The best we'll do here is a modestly strong showing that exceeds expectations just enough to keep his campaign alive. Then must follow a pattern of modestly surprising showings. Then--something wonderful!

8. I think Iowa will be very, very close
My prediction: If Kucinich is even as low as 5th, it will be only by a hair. I agree, Iowa probably won't be his strongest state, but there are still a lot of undecideds. The chips are still in the air.

9. Even as low as 5th?
Meaning you think he'll be fourth or better? Based on what?!

11. Yup. Exactly.
Dean, Kerry, Gephart, Edwards, and Kucinich, maybe not in that order... From what I see in my little corner of Iowa, and what I hear about other areas here, it will be close.

15. why not third?
Do you think Kerry is a lock for third? I think DK should be able to beat Edwards for fourth and I continue to believe that third place is a reasonable expectation for DK as Kerry is flagging badly.
I guess Clark remains something of a wild card despite his absence from Iowa, but I don't think he will win, place or show.
I guess we will know in 13 days.

12. I think Dk jumped the shark
His pie chart thing on the radio was the shark. I know this will piss people off and for those of you who I like and respect, I am sorry. But since I don't see him as the great liberal hope, I am not sorry for his campaign.

13. Dennis can't win but we need him in the debates
I don't want him to be president but he is doing an important job--keeping the viable canidates, with the exception of lieberman who is beyond hope, from drifting too far to the right. This will become increasingly important as we go to the South and West.

I sent Kucinich a hundred bucks to help him stay in until the convention where he should be rewarded with a prime time speech.
