N.O.W. to endorse Obama / Biden today
On Tuesday, September 16, the National Organization for Women PAC, Feminist Majority PAC, Business and Professional Women/PAC, National Association of Social Workers PACE, National Congress of Black Women, and the Women's Information Network will make a decisive announcement regarding the 2008 presidential election.

What: Women's rights groups make important announcement on the presidential election

When: Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 12:30pm

Where: National Press Club; 529 14th Street NW; Washington, DC; Holeman Lounge

Who:

Kim Gandy, National Organization for Women PAC Chair Ellie Smeal, Feminist Majority PAC Chair Deborah Frett, CEO of Business and Professional Women/PAC Betsy Clark, NASW-PACE, Executive Director E. Faye Williams, National Chair, National Congress of Black Women Kristy Pagan, Chair, Women's Information Network

Nicked from Dkos:

Kim Gandy, National Organization for Women PAC Chair, was just interviewed on NPR, stating that they are going to officially endorse the Obama/Biden ticket.

She went on to say that NOW rarely endorses, but the importance of this year's election, and the stark differences with the Sarah Palin actions and statements, make this announcement imperative.

It will be interesting to see exactly what they say in the release. Hopefully they'll come out with an ad as well.

When they did endorse? For us History buffs.

Good news, now if we can get the National Organization of Men to do the same.

Just kidding.

22. It would be sexist NOT to put her to the same test we would give any man!
Obama and Biden need no cover for this, they merely need to tell the truth.

26. I must be missing something.
I have never thought of NOW as a powerful force with moderate or conservative women, or any of the groups we need to swing the election. To me, they are the choir.

I am glad that they are giving Obama this endorsement... but will it matter?

Just being ignorant here. I want to understand how this will impact voters. I'm actually afraid that it will turn off moderate women who don't see themselves as "feminist".

32. The chess game unfolding?
Obama's probably had the N.O.W. endorsement in the bag but was waiting for a good time to go public, like he did with the John Edwards endorsement after the WV primary.

So he probably decides to wait until after the conventions.

I'm sure Team Obama had played out the "what if McCain picks a female VP" scenario when they went with Biden. They know there's a good chance the McCain team will go after the disaffected Hillary voters.

So the female VP comes to pass, and with it the expected MSM cawing about how women are now drawn to the McCain/Palin ticket, whether or not that's really true.

What better time to remind women what's at stake than when some of them might be following the shiny object?

My hope is that the womens' rights PACs will now be the attack dogs to go after Palin's failures to protect women in Alaska.
