Biden Goes on Anti-McCain Offensive
http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=news-000002950629

It’s getting hard to tell Joseph R. Biden Jr. ’s friends from his enemies.

The Democratic vice presidential nominee will launch a hard-hitting and highly personal assault today on Republican presidential nominee John McCain -- a man Biden referred to as his friend late last month -- as part of a well-publicized effort by Democrats to be more aggressive on the campaign trail.

“The same campaign that once called for a town hall a week is now launching a low blow a day,” Biden will say at a campaign stop in Michigan, according to remarks released over the weekend but embargoed until this morning.

Biden’s running mate, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama , has made clear that he intends to take a tougher tack in the final seven weeks of the campaign.

Democrats hope to regain their footing after watching their poll numbers slip following McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate a little more than two weeks ago, and Biden’s speech, intended to dominate morning news coverage, is part of the new offensive.

“When someone running for election changes his views to satisfy the base of the party, that’s not change, that’s just more of the same Washington game,” Biden plans to say.
