Tracking poll internals: Palin's steep favorability dive
tremayne at OpenLeft:

. . .

The Research 2000 poll for dKos released Sept. 11 shows Palin at 52% favorable, 35% unfavorable, a 17-point net positive. Over the next several days look at the trend:

Sept. 11: +17 point net positive

Sept. 12: +14 point

Sept. 13: +9

Sept. 14: +5

Palin's unfavorables are up to 42 while here favorables are down to 47. Her Charlie Gibson interview and generally bad press for the McCain-Palin ticket are taking a toll. Here are Barack Obama's net positives for the same four days: 16, 16, 14 and 15 today. Joe Biden: 19, 19, 18 and 16 today. As for McCain, a similar pattern to Palin only not as steep a decline: 11, 13, 12 and 9.

Not reflected in the numbers released today are the SNL lampooning last night at the Sunday political shows which, although I didn't watch, apparently went after Palin hard.

17. No kidding. Her links to Third Wave evangelism are creepy.
Third Wave is considered heretical even by other evangelicals. Rather than preaching and teaching, the Third Wave's ultimate mission is to force Christian dominion over "non-believers."

Once that's well known, even the RW conservative "base" is going to have to take another look at her.

38. Not like *, really, but ready on Day One to imitate him.
She's no scion of hereditary wealth, and actually has had to work for a living before--which makes her willingness to roll over for the GOP less logical, and perhaps a little scarier.

5. That's more like a stock market crash
The SNL skit was cute, but not that funny. I believe it is on the NBC website as I watched it this morning. One thing it does do is contrast in real life how dumb Palin is compared to Clinton. I guess the truth hurts.

7. true favorables/unfavorables are those that happen after people get to actually
see the candidates for themselves.

both Obama and Biden are the type whose favorables would go up if the whore media would just show them rather than report right wing talking points about them.

McCain i would say would probably be overall favorable in that people would be ok with him, but not enough to support him over Obama or Biden. they might like or respect him as a person but not on the issues.

Palin is the type whose favorables would just go down other than the same type that continue supporting BUsh now and view him as a good president.

8. People have GOT to be wondering why they're keeping her away from the
press, and why she and McCain ALWAYS appear together - never individually.

I think if I were truly undecided, that would just sit funny with me - I'd wonder what they were afraid of.

And the clips they keep showing of Palin, show her saying the same thing at every speech, at every stop. Practically verbatim.

16. The two Palin/Biden debates will not be enough to expose her, I fear.
Especially if these are as contrived and controlled as they often are.

I think she'll be "handled" carefully from here on out, they know damn well what a liability she may become if allowed to speak freely, to take questions in an uncontrolled environment, etc.

And John McCain draws little more than flies at public events without her, so we'll continue to see their road act for awhile.

20. I think the VPs only get one debate -- the Presidential candidates get two.
Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm right, that means only one opportunity to showcase her lack of qualifications.

30. When Ross Perot first appeared on the scene in 92 polls showed him beating both Bush and Clinton
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_1992

There is quite frequently a huge novelty value to some outsider who on the surface sounds "plain speaking", "practical" and "like an ordinary guy" when they first appear on the national scene.

The more people learned about Perot and the more people thought about it, the less people liked his ideas and the less people wanted him to actually be President of the United States.

I cannot say that I am not concerned about the Palin phenomena. I am absolutely terrified about the prospect of that ignorant loon controlling the nuclear launch codes. But I think there is a fair possibility that the vast majority of American will soon see through the fluff and decide that they really don't believe believe the former Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska is Presidential or Vice-Presidential material and is not someone who can be trusted to have the fate of the world in her hand.

43. k*r This is excellent. Thanks.

I think that this will continue.

Two reasons, among many -

1) The guy who started and did, for the most part, Foleygate, Brian Ross of ABC news is hot on
the case. He's excellent when motivated, and he is. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter

2) The wolf ad on YouTube is viral. I think that the main post plus mirrors are at 2,000,000 there
and climbing everywhere. That's the most devastating political commercial since the nuke one Johnson
did to blow Goldwater away.
