The Obama campaign dispatches Texas supporters to New Mexico
September 11, 2008

Obama exporting Texans

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama put out a call to arms today for his Texas supporters to volunteer to go door to door to help him win victory in -- New Mexico.

Here's the message from Texas director Juan Sepulveda:

The incredible energy generated by our Texas Two-Step registration drive on March 4th has only grown since the convention. We're building an organization to harness this energy for change in Texas and keep bringing folks into our grassroots movement -- not just here, but all over the country.

That's why we need your help. As an Obama supporter in Texas, you can make a huge impact by traveling to New Mexico to speak with undecided voters about why Barack Obama and Joe Biden will bring the change we need.

New Mexico is a crucial battleground state -- one of only two that voted for Al Gore in 2000 and George W. Bush in 2004. This year, we have a real shot to win in New Mexico but the race is extremely close and every vote can make the difference.

We are organizing a trip from Texas to New Mexico to grow our movement there. Will you take a short trip to New Mexico for Barack?

Thanks to your incredible work, we've registered tens of thousands of new voters in Texas and brought folks into the process who had felt left behind by the politics of the past.

1. He is also dispatching Texans to Colorado as well
I attended his Camp Obama, and I could go, but I chose to stay here since I am a new Precinct Chair. I'm trying to get my voters to the polls this year.

5. Is New Mexico really close
or was the last poll an outlier? I cannot fathom an almost twenty point swing in a few weeks. Just does not seem possible.

6. From Realclearpolitics website numbers

Poll ..........................Date ............Sample............ Obama (D).............. McCain (R) .............Spread

RCP Average.......08/13 - 09/08 .......................................47.0.......................44.7............... Obama +2.3
Rasmussen.........09/08 - 09/08 .......700 LV.......................47..........................49...................McCain +2
CNN/Time .........08/24 - 08/26 .......659 RV.......................53..........................40...................Obama +13
Rasmussen.........08/20 - 08/20 .......700 LV.......................48..........................44...................Obama +4
Mason-Dixon.....08/13 - 08/15 .........400 LV.......................41..........................45...................McCain +4
Rasmussen.........07/24 - 07/24 .......700 LV.......................49..........................43...................Obama +6
SurveyUSA.........06/17 - 06/19.........539 LV......................49..........................46...................Obama +3

I guess Obama has a narrow lead if you trust the poll numbers. I tend not to put much faith or trust in polls since they are only targeted towards small amounts of calls of likely voters.

4. This is great news that the 50 State strategy is still being implemented.
That's what I love about Obama. He'll listen to criticism but at the same time, he's brave enough to stick with a strategy.

I think many people are too used to the tactics of the Republican party to realize that it's different from a strategy. People don't realize what a lack of strategy means. It's what caused all this trouble in Iraq. It's why our 8 years without a coherent national strategy is screwing us all over.

The day to day tactics that the GOP uses is just like McCain's maverickyness. It's unreliable, unstable and temporary. I don't get why people don't realize what a maverick really is.
