"Fox & Friends" hosts want to know if Obama has "traveled outside the United States"
Fox host sees sexism in ABC interview with Palin
David Edwards and Nick Juliano
Published: Friday September 12, 2008

How dare that mean Charlie Gibson over at ABC ask Sarah Palin all those mean misogynistic questions about whether the woman who would be a hearbeat from the presidency has ever traveled beyond North America, or knows what the Bush doctrine is, or would start a war with Russia, or would let Israel nuke Iran.

It's just sexist to think that experience with -- or even a solid grasp of -- world affairs should matter, say the morning bobble heads on Fox & Friends.

"It's very subtle, but I think you're not going to give the same questions to Barack Obama or any other man, for that matter, on the experience level," said F&F co-host Gretchen Carlson. "I think inherent in the questions is a little bit of sexism."

Yeah! Except for serving as the basis for Hillary Clinton's primary campaign, and John McCain's pre-Pallin general election campaign, and coming in dozens of Democratic debates and televised interviews since Obama entered the presidential race 19 months ago, his relative inexperience has hardly been mentioned.

Ahem:

NBC's Tim Russert, Sept. 26, 2007, "Senator Obama. ... You have served in the U.S. Senate about 33 months. You have no landmark legislation as such that you have offered. ..."

ABC's George Stephanopolous, Aug. 19, 2007, "Is Senator Obama ready?"

Univision's Jorge Ramos, Feb. 21, 2008, "Are you suggesting that Senator Obama is not ready, he doesn't have the experience to be commander in chief?"

You get the idea.

While the F&F crew acknowledged one of Palin's slip-ups in her first nationally televised interview -- where she seemed unaware of what Gibson meant by "the Bush doctrine" -- their overall reaction was nothing short of laudatory.

"It looks as if she passed the test," Steve Doocy pronounced.

The hosts wouldn't relent their what-about-Obama whining, though.

"Turnabout is fair play. Is somebody going to ask Barack Obama these questions?" he asked, ignorant or unaware of the fact that they had, many, many times. "Do you have enough experience? Have you met any world leaders? Have you traveled outside the United States?"

This last question carried quite a fair share of perhaps unintentional irony, as not two months ago right wing commentators, including plenty of Fox personalities, relentlessly mocked Obama for the huge crowds he was attracting on his tour of foreign countries.

Perhaps forgetting the famous tour of Europe and the Middle East, Carlson throws in her own dig with a fair share of foreigner fear-mongering the right is so fond of throwing Obama's way.

"A lot was made that he took a college trip to Pakistan, as I recall," she sneered.
