Ohio Poll: McCain up by four, but quarter of voters have not made definite pick
The race for president has the early makings of a close battle for Ohio’s 20 electoral votes.
The latest Ohio Poll finds that 48 percent of Ohio’s likely voters support Senator John McCain, while
44 percent support Senator Barack Obama. An additional five percent of Ohio’s likely voters say they
will vote for another candidate, and four percent are undecided as to their presidential vote.
NO REST FOR THE WEARY IN OHIO
Eric W. Rademacher, The Ohio Poll’s Co-Director, said, “Both campaigns have many hours of work
ahead if they want to secure a path to the presidency through Ohio.” Two findings of the Poll suggest the
presidential race in Ohio may have a long way to go:
First, a large portion of likely voters (23%) may still be “up for grabs”: nineteen percent say they
might change their mind and switch candidates before Election Day, and four percent are undecided
as to which candidate they will choose.
Second, more Democrats than Republicans currently express intent to cross party lines on
November 4. While 11 percent of Democratic likely voters currently say they will vote for McCain,
just five percent of Republican likely voters currently intend to vote for Obama. While this bears
watching, early partisan “defectors” often “come home” to support their party’s candidate by Election
Day.

18-29: 60-33 for Obama
30-45 50-41 for McCain
46-64 53-40 for McCain
65 plus 49-40 for McCain

Dems: 82-11 for Obama
GOP: 90-5 for McCain
Independents: 39-36 virtual tie leaning McCain

black voters: 92-1 for Obama
White voters: 53-39 for McCain

3. I believe so which means that Ohio is truly as this poll says close.
I don't know why people get so concerned when a poll indicates Obama may be down by 3 or 4 points, that is often within the margin of error and indicates a close race. It's not like he's down by double digits.

7. Race and fear, IMHO.
Driving around south of town the other day and I was astounded at all the McCain support. More than for Bush in 2004, I think.

8. 2 things about this poll
1. It would have been helpful if they had inluded the partisan and regional breakdown.

2. McCain gets virtually every republican - 95%, so there is no room for him to grow with that group of voters. Obama can increase his support among democrats.
