It's been widely reported that McCain is acting like a complete insolent ass to the media.
If you listened to Jay Carney on MSNBC (last week) talk about his meeting with McCain. Carney has a longstanding relationship with McCain. McCain took Carney under his wing, when Carney was getting started in journalism, and took Carney to DC meetings that were difficult to obtain access. Carney said he boarded McCain's bus and that the Senator was "like something out of the 'Body Snatchers.'" Carney started asking friendly/softball questions and McCain snapped at him, "Go read my book. I'm not answering those questions." Carney was so stunned by McCain's behavior and he said, "Do I know you?" to Senator McCain.
I don't know what the hell McCain is doing. By blocking access, not giving interviews and acting like a bastard, he runs the risk of the media turning against him. I say, let him shoot himself in the foot.
Who knows, but it appears that McCain is pulling a 'Cheney-media strategy.' He's not granting access, because he knows he doesn't come off well.
Furthermore, the McCain camp's strategy is to make this campaign about everything, except the issues. It appears that their strategy is to lie, distort, attack and feign outrage-on a constant basis, so they don't have to talk about how bad the economy, McCain's plan which is the Bush plan, and Obama's real plan for change. If McCain doesn't talk to the media, he can go around asserting bizarre lies such as "I'm the change candidate" or "Obama will raise your taxes" and he doesn't have to explain or make sense.
The lies remain intact with this strategy.
As we all know, there's a "stupid demographic" in this country, and they believe soundbytes and lies.
So it could work on a limited basis.
