Governor Failin "bounce" has ZERO effect on electoral college.
There's no Failin boom to be seen AT ALL in the state polls done in CO, MI, NM, CO, NH, or NV during the past couple days. I don't know what the deal is with some of these national polls, maybe all the new Failin followers are from fundy red states like Alabama and Utah. Maybe the polls are just bullshit.

I never thought I'd say this but thank the universe for the electoral college. It would be funny if the very thing that fucked America over in 2000 saves it in 2008.

1. I think it's because the American people are fed up with manufactured "outrage"
John McCain failed the first test of his future presidency. He chose a vapid inexperienced screwball religious extremist because his base is not behind him, but they sure are behind her. Now, he's hiding behind her apron strings because he has nothing at all to offer the country. He comes across on the TV screen like a very creepy version of the Wizard of Oz after Toto pulled away the curtains.

She is not ready to be a heartbeat away from the president, yet McCain chose her for his VP. He failed miserably at his first test. It's as simple as that. Outrage is all they have left to sell. Pathetic.

4. I don't know if it's Palin but it has had an effect in the EC
Several polls show a bit of a theme, McCain is gaining stronger in the red states, but he's also moved up in a few battlegrounds. On Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight site, McCain has, for the first time that I know of, overtaken Obama in the Electoral College. Just barely. However it is still too close to call. And also because more of the Red States just got redder, lots of McCain's new support doesn't look to help him much. He has gained ground though.

I would say this, I believe this is about as good as it gets for McCain. In a race that is virtually tied all around, he gave it many of his best shots, had his convention and still could only come up with a tie. This time four years ago, Kerry was down by about 10-14 and he erased it in one debate. Obama might blow this open with a few good debates, so we'll see. Likely the debates will be better for Obama, so I'm saying this is about as close as McCain gets.
