It just hit me. Palin's answers to Gibson are PAGEANT answers. I've covered pageants, know the lingo

I covered many, many pageants -- local and state pageants -- as a small-town journalist. And I'm telling you ... the kinds of answers Sarah Palin is giving on ABC are the type of answers pageant contestants (particularly those in the Miss America pageant system) are trained to give on the spot. I'm not being sexist, or advocating some narrow view of what she's capable of. I just know I've heard these kinds of answers many, many times before ... on the pageant stage.

Generalities. Bromides. Hallmark card answers. Patriotic phrases. No real substance ... it just has to have that America-right-or-wrong, peace-on-earth ring to it.

I'm telling you ... she got her freaking interview training on the pageant stage.

7. Let me add that I've interviewed some extremely intelligent pageant contestants over the years ...

... the Miss America system (and the former Junior Miss program) gives scholarhip money. I could tell some of the young women I interviewed were really going places -- lots of ambition, challenging majors in college, etc. But there's a certain kind of answer that's more "acceptable" to most pageant judges.

And they're the kind of answers Sarah Palin is giving ... TO QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES OF OUR TIME!!!!!!!!

I just got home from a night class, so "Nightline" is my first taste of her interview.

And we are not amused. WE ARE APPALLED. John McCain is no patriot if he expects us to accept her as a heartbeat from the presidency.

I've been paraphrasing (incorrectly, which is ironically appropriate) that answer whenever I comment on Palin's interview tonight.

In retrospect, I was way too kind in my paraphrase...

And yeah... I just kept hearing echoes of "Little Miss Sunshine". Never found myself fooled into actually attending a Beauty Pageant.

My heart goes out to you for enduring such things in reality.

... seriously ... I was already feeling (gastrointestinally/migrainely) ill from listening to the McCain camp twist everything and swiftboat Obama ... now I'm realizing Governor Pageant-Answers might someday be president, if this country's FOOLS are the ones who turn out on election day. I'm even more appalled by Palin's lack of a grasp of the issues than I was of George W. Bush's (which is saying something).

I don't think I can take any more this weekend. I'll watch Obama on SNL, and that's about it.
