thenthicdeserve to be entrusted to defend out country from terrorists?

I truly wonder this. The problem with progressives is that we don’t understand people powered by mythic imperialism and the conviction that they are right and everyone else is evil. This conviction gives them permission to do what they wish to win and be convinced that God is on their side (something especially easy for Palin to believe). But that is the republican personality to a core. It is just like the personality of a crazy Islamic terrorist and most other conquerors and political criminals of the past.

We accord virtually everyone certain humane and quite literally progressive consideration—something they will never do for us. If you are familiar with Spiral Dynamics you know that people as well as countries evolve through certain stages: from archaic, to magic, to mythic, to rational, and beyond. Those at the mythic level (and to be more precise Spiral Dynamics would class most republicans as “mythic imperialists” for their belief that their ways are not only best but must be put upon others) will lose to the magic unless they fight with the same weapons as the magic. And those at the rational will lose to the mythic (imperialists) unless they use the same tools as the mythic imperialists (this means appealing to fear and to other parts of the limbic brain that function at a lower level than rational).

If Obama loses then I believe he deserves to lose. He has no excuse for not understanding this kind of enemy because they doubtless didn’t fight fair on the south side of Chicago.

We have to face the likelihood that if McLame wins we will face at least four years of him followed by a religious mythic crazed lady who makes Bush look like a religious moderate. In view of this Obama simply must do whatever it takes to win. If you’ve ever read “The End of Days” by Gershom Gorenberg you will also know that these extreme fundamentalists (of all of the three monotheistic religions) feel it is their duty to “hurry along” the time when Christ will liberate man. Sometimes they don't even consciously realize it, but if you place them in power their actions take it that way.

Obama must win. He must do whatever it takes.

1. Unfortunately, a democracy not only needs great leaders

but also ABSOLUTELY requires an educated, informed, and engaged electorate.

Deserved that horror.

Your post assumes that freedom and democracy are easy. In truth, freedom is fragile. All too often people succumb to fear and false promises of security, rather than strive for a better America. If the Republicans wins again, then we all get the blame and responsibility.

3. Americans are lazy
It's always what someone else must do.

We must be playing 100x harder than Obama and willing to hit them upside the head relentlessly.
We must make it clear that we will not accept any more of the Republicans, under any circumstance, that we will abandon the rules and fight them where they live.

Fuck peace in the family and fuck having friendly neighbors. Neither will do you a bit of good when they crush our society and leave the majority of our citizens ignorant and impoverished. Decorum and civility will buy you a corner in hell when our only protection from enemies foreign and domestic is emasculated and replaced with direct corporate rule.

Do liberals love America enough to actually fight for it? What is the limit to your fight? I assure you that the enemy won't hesitate to put an option on the table to retain power.

Bring them down!

and that's a scary thought. These people will put their beliefs before their very own kids. They'd do it to a constitution in a heartbeat too.

I'm kinda witchy and would turn those sort into toads but a book already beat me to it ; )
