Be an Election Officer
Want to help fight the rightwinger's efforts to "cage" votes, intimidate voters, slow down the line to discourage people from voting, etc? Sign up with your county to work as an election officer, not as one of the folks who hand you the sample ballots, but as an officer of your county checking the voting lists, keeping the line moving (and giving you that nice little "I Voted" Sticker). I do it. It's a long day, but it's rewarding, and you can keep an eye on the repukes... I know my Democratic precinct captains and they have their phones set with speed dial to lawyers. If some repuke tries to interfer with people voting in my precinct I'm 1: calling the cops to remove them as obstructing a polling place and 2: calling the local Democratic party to get the lawyers engaged.

I've only had a problem once so far, in 2004 when a republican poll worker was stopping people from carrying (legal) sample ballots into the voting booth. I quickly found out and stopped it right then and there. (The republican poll worker no longer works as an election officer)

Don’t just know your rights, help enforce them!

1. I just moved to MD and when I registered I selected the box
to be an Election Officer.

We'll see what happens.
