Today
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 03:35 AM by NanceGreggs
Seven years ago today, our nation was attacked while the idiot profferred as a leader by a self-serving political organization sat in a schoolroom and stared off into space.

Seven years ago today, real heroes lost their own lives trying to save the lives of strangers, while power brokers plotted how to exploit those deaths in order to anger a nation into following blindly down the path to never-ending war.

Seven years ago today, our global neighbors stood with us as friends and allies in our moment of tragedy, while backroom propagandists conjured up the manipulative phrases – with us or against us, evil doers, Axis of Evil – that would distance us from those whose goodwill might inadvertently thwart carefully-laid plans predicated on the destruction of other nations rather than a forging of lasting alliances.

Seven years ago today, a nation stood together as one united people sharing a sense of loss, along with a renewed commitment to each other as fellow citizens, while the powers-that-be behind the current administration deliberately sowed the seeds of division, a necessary distraction that paved the way to pursuing the kind of greed for power and wealth only aggression against the powerless and impoverished can achieve.

Seven years ago today, small town folk and city dwellers gathered together in stunned silence to cry upon shoulders or offer shoulders to be cried upon, while those whose only true home is their ideology of money and influence gathered to congratulate themselves on having found the perfect opportunity to launch their plans of extracting the substantial profits that only global unrest can generate.

Seven years on, here we stand. A less-safe nation standing alone in a less-safe world - reviled by those who once revered us, looked down upon by those who once looked up to us, drowning in debt, the jobless prey of an administration that sold us out, while our veterans live in cardboard boxes on street corners, our senior citizens choose between food and medicine, and our children prepare themselves to pay down the debt created by those who profited from the worst tragedy that ever befell our country.

Today the importance of electing Barack Obama takes on new meaning. After seven years of placating the home-grown terrorists who have manipulated the worst of our time to create the best of their time, it is time to stand up and say, “Enough. No more. Not this time – and not ever again.”

Not ever again.

6. Well...uh...I was lying.
I know many people have said you're a good writer, and it's well deserved. You express complex thoughts simply, so even a slow learner like myself can understand. You give me information without me feeling preached to, you make bring out feelings without me feeling manipulated, and you understand the concept of brevity. I'm a fan. Sorry about the lie.

12. Never again
We let down our guard and the result was an American family that befriended Hitler seized power and used Hitler's blueprint for world domination. The parallels are uncanny. And as Holocaust survivors have been saying since the end of Hitler's reign of terror, "Never again."
I know using Hitler is considered bad taste, but I'm not the one who said I wanted to be a dictator. It's time to take the dictator and his party of knuckle dragging goose steppers off the table.

26. You dont know how right you are about the parallels
I have been reading an online book, (can be ordered as s dvd)
While i have not had time or energy to track down all of the bibliography
I have read enough in library of congress(files that are now classified that were not
when w took office) to see that the same families, corporations that had helped
the nazi fascists are still in business and doing the same thing now
that they were doing 70+ years ago. Same tactics everything.
I have had holocaust survivors verify many things that were happening in
Europe at that time having parallels to later doings.

It will take some time and patience to read, and to verify his sources, but
having been snooping for years it all seems like it is up and up and not
just a rant.

13. Not EVER again... Never forget...
I'll never forget having to explain to my 2-year old daughter why airplanes were crashing into buildings...why people were crying...and now knowing it could have been avoided...not ever again...

15. Just a thought...
Obama would be well served were he to get some of his speeches from you. Which is not to say that the man is any slouch when it comes to employing words. I'm merely saying (at the risk of sounding like an echo) that you've a rare gift.

22. The most egregious betrayal of public trust by a president in our nation's history
That's the phrase that comes to mind whenever I think about how this administration exploited the tragedy, the fear, the anger, and the patriotism that Americans felt 7 years ago -- exploited it to launch a premeditated war based on lies, for money and power.

I don't know what galls me more -- that they got away with it, that they got a 2nd term, or that so many of my fellow citizens aren't as outraged as I am.

... expressing ourselves is one of the healthy outlets for the outrage.

And few, if any, express what we all feel as well as you :-)

IRAN offered unconditional help - one of the FIRST nations to do so after 9/11, and Bush blew them off.

We could have had a sterling relationship with them by now......
