Oh, wonderful
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09/biden-hillary-a.html

This just was not a clever thing to say. It's almost got Drudge excited enough to use his stupid siren gif.

8. I was reading on another board from a few Hillary supporters
who were flattered by Joe's remark. They thought it made him seem like a gentleman.

3. I thought it was great
The Dems are well stocked with qualified people. Be happy.

4. Exactly. It also shows great unity and respect within the party.
I don't understand how this can be spun into an unwise thing to say.

5. Fair enough
I get spooked out by Drudge sometimes, particularly when he uses a 72-point font.

I think it wasn't a clever thing to say, but if most folks' first reactions were positive, then I was probably off-base.

6. Why do you think it "wasn't clever"?
How could his words be hurtful?

"Make no mistake about this," Biden responded. "Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Let’s get that straight. She’s a truly close personal friend, she is qualified to be president of the United States of America, she’s easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America and quite frankly it might have been a better pick than me. But she’s first rate, I mean that sincerely, she’s first rate, so let’s get that straight."

9. Because...
...saying "Hillary was a better pick than me" seems to inherently question Obama's judgment. Perhaps I took it too literally.

10. Not when read in context.
But I know not doing so is all the rage these days.

11. The video of it was what was first linked when I read it...
It may be out of context, but it doesn't sound very clever to me either way. It even sounded like he hesitated a little bit before saying it, thinking he was about to goof.

Anyway, if I overreacted, that's fine. I'm glad to be wrong about it.

7. Exactly!
Biden, Hillary and at least a dozen others were more than qualified. Obama had a tough choice and had to pick the right fit.
