Hell just froze over!..The reddest republican
I have ever known, has thrown down the gauntlet this afternoon and refuses to vote for McCain/Palin

This is a narrow focus right to life republican.

Will he vote Obama, not a chance in this life or the next.

But you will never believe what has him refusing to vote McCain/Palin. That pig with the lipstick.

They got too cute by half, with the web ad etc. I just finished talking to this gentleman, and he is livid, I mean livid at the out right lies. For what ever reason, this pig with the lipstick, stuck that these people were lying. And the fact that the McCain campaign continues to promote this as some attack on Palin, has him beside himself. That and that bridge to nowhere. She is a liar too. How did he put it.. "A nest of liars"

His conclusion that if they are such outright liars, they can be trusted with nothing they say. So he is not going to vote for them. And this guy is a real motor mouth who influences those low info voters.

Who would have thought that something like this would switch a light bulb on. How many others out there are being influenced the same way?

I think I need a cup of coffee, I am still in shock.

6. I just spent 40 minutes listening to him vent
I could not get a word in edgewise, he is so mad. Some guy on cnn that was talking to Carville, really set him off. I guess instead of backing down, the guy on cnn said basically it was Obamas fault because he could not handle the lies. I have no idea exactly what he is talking about. But hey good for our side.

I have a good friend and co-worker who is a staunch Republican (He was supporting McCain until Palin's BS disgusted him, now he's planning on voting for Obama). We like to give each other hell when it comes to politics but that doesn't make us any less friends.

Your totalitarian black-and-white "if you don't agree with me you are evil" attitude is exactly the kind of BS Obama criticized back at his 2004 convention speech.

46. Yeah, it's kinda amazing how Obama's use of one word just opened the floodgates
I don't even know how "spin" just replaced the usage of the word lie-- but somehow, Obama using it seems to have let the media realize, "Hey, we can use that as a word to describe what's going on!" And seriously, they don't even need to worry about libel or slander lawsuits because a) they are talking about public figures who bear a heavier burden of proof; b) lie is actually being used correctly and is an accurate representation of the situation; c) if the McCain campaign tries to further their whining by doing any sort of lawsuit, they lose political points; d) the McCain campaign only has room to "spin" if it's only spinning as it deals with truth as a relative value but they can't argue with the absolute value of a lie or the truth.

So, yeah, I don't know if the whole lipstick on a pig thing was planned or what but Obama's adjustment was genius. What I'd like to see though is for him to push the message that Obama/Biden = the FUTURE of CHANGE and McCain/Palin = PAST and MORE OF THE SAME.

68. Polls lag
People take time to process information (that is, information other than of the "shocking scandal" variety). "McCain is a liar" is the sort of concept people mull over a bit before reaching, and then making a change.

Additionally many of the polls are taken as if there are only two possible choices. Most of the Bob Barr protest voters, when squeezed into an either-or situation, will name McCain over Obama.

There may also be other factors, such as a "reverse Bradley" effect: my mother is now solidly behind Obama, but does not want the neighbors to know she will vote for a black man.

71. I don't know
I'd be better able to venture a guess if I was living back in the militantly white southwest suburbs of Chicago, an area that makes Alabama look liberal on race issues. There, you can get harassed for having a black cleaning lady clean your house and the worker threatened (a mistake made by one of my older relatives once). And I occasionally get long, detailed, angry and frightened telephone reports about an (note the singular particle) African American family seen shopping at a nearby mall. My family overall is more race-insane than most (I have close relatives who've flirted with neo-nazism), but unfortunately they're not much outside of the mainstream over there.

But though I still have family on the southwest side, I have not lived there for decades. I'm now apparently part of the "eastern liberal elite" or something, here in Burlington VT (even though my "eliteness" today involves threatening to sue the Burlington Housing Authority, which is refusing to allow seizure-prone residents in its public housing project for the elderly and disabled to cover the strobe lights it has installed with its new fire alarm system. You know, us public housing elitists).

Chances are he will vote for someone and you don't want him reverting to McCain.

Think he might like this?

"Political positions in Congress

See also: Political positions of Bob Barr

During his tenure, Barr was regarded as one of the most conservative members of Congress.<27> In 2002, he was described as "the idol of the gun-toting, abortion-fighting, IRS-hating hard right wing of American politics".<22> However, Barr's criticism of the Bush administration's policies on privacy and other civil liberties after the 9/11 attacks was unusual among House Republicans (see Criticism of Bush Administration below).<22> This criticism earned Barr other labels such as maverick,<22> Jekyll-and-Hyde,<28> and libertarian.<24>"

26. Thank you! God bless 'im! It's the lying, I agree.
We take this Rove-esque lying for granted now. We just expect it, that's how it is. BULL!!! We got lied into a war, and people needn't worry about lies? Lies of this magnitude? This frequency? And this is only the campaign, imagine if those two were in office?

I'm glad Obama is using the word "lie" instead of kinder words. But the lying is a big hammer to use against both McC and Pale... and the bonus is, in straightening out the lies most issues can be dealt with at the same time. Fixing this has to get aggressive.

That's the most encouraging thing I've heard in a while.

49. I think your are right.
It was just too much. And they did not back off the lie, and finally, finally after all these years, the press is catching on too.. how wonderful is that

48. Threre are two Republicans in my team at work
One is voting for Obama (in Virginia) and the other is not voting because he cannot stand Palin and he could not vote for a Democrat. So that is 1 and 1/2 advantage right there. :-)

50. Ahh Mr Wiggles.
It is true then, Virginia is for lovers and great politicians Birthplace of presidents, the next blue state. (fingers crossed!). What an awesome update. I know tomorrow we will have the ups and downs that are typical with an election, but GOD I am enjoying tonight. :)

63. I can't help but feel that some of these outraged republicans will
spew now but suck it up when it comes times to vote and vote the wrong way anyway.

Even if we get just a percentage of these outraged republicans, it helps a lot though.

69. I do believe that many republicans will vote for Obama in the privacy of the booth.
They will not be able to bring themselve to vote for McNasty/McPain, but they will never go around and ruin their republican street cred by saying they'd vote for Obama. They'd most likely vote for him (because I think Biden helps there cuz he seems so no-nonsense), out of fear that staying home or choosing Barr would allow McNasty/McPain to get into office.
