Obama gets blessing of bluegrass legend Stanley (A lot of you will say WHO?)
But Ralph Stanley is legend in Bluegrass music.

RICHMOND, Va. (Map, News) - Barack Obama picked up the endorsement Tuesday of Grammy-winning bluegrass music legend Ralph Stanley.

The 81-year-old Coeburn native has backed other Democrats in recent years, including Mark Warner's 2001 bid for governor and Florida Senator Bob Graham 2003 bid for president.

Stanley and his brother, Carter, formed the Stanley Brothers and their Clinch Mountain Boys in 1946. The duo helped define the music that would become known as bluegrass, fusing Bill Monroe's rapid rhythms with the mountain folk of groups such as the Carter Family.

14. Ralph Stanley is like unto a god.
He's the living history of bluegrass and American roots music.

Plus, he's almost as old as God. (Just kidding, Ralph!)

15. Oh man, that's awesome!
I saw Ralph at a Bean Blossum Bluegrass festival a few years ago. That guy is the best! Between him and Bill Monroe, what other bluegrass is there? (actually there is some of the best bluegrass music being played around some campfire somewhere, right this very moment, I am sure!)
