"I will not donate any more money to Obama until he unleashes the 527s!"
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 01:33 PM by AndyA
This from a wealthy Democratic donor at lunch.

He said he might as well just throw away his money if Obama isn't going to even up the playing field. As it is, the Dems are severely disabled, and that is being reflected in the polls.

Obama needs to unleash the attack dogs...now.

1. Time for your friend to pony up. Story out earlier today that the campaign is quietly giving them..
...the go-ahead. Just scroll back here on GDP, and you'll see the link yourself.

7. They seem to be respecting Obama's wishes so far. I haven't seen any
attack ads running against McCain/Palin.

9. Give them time.
The GOP has no restraint against trashing someone, as we know from past experience. I think I'd rather be on the offensive instead of the defensive.

19. Hell, with the "mainstream" Republicans spreading baldfaced lies with impunity
why even bother with that?

The Obama campaign could have innoculated itself against the charges easily enough over the summer be simply- and in no uncertain terms, defining McCain & company as confused, callous and dishonest USING THEIR OWN WORDS AND BEHAVIORS in a timely maner.

Sadly, those have now become a part of the memory hole- and the time honored principles of propoganda, repeat lies over and over while mocking the opponent show once again why they're so effective in nations that lack a critcal (much less analystical) media.

Greenwald had a discussion about that with Maddow yesterday.

24. What R/W 527's have ads airing against Obama?
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 10:45 AM by mzmolly
I've not seen any? If they're 527's are not muzzled than heck yes we need to let Moveon air ads.

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/06/moveon_to_close_its_527.php

"The move could also make it tougher politically for John McCain and the GOP to benefit from 527s, which can raise money in unlimited sums, on his side. While he has generally disapproved of such activity, he recently said that he couldn't control negative ads by such groups.

"The hope is that Republicans will match this, so that the voices of ordinary Americans can drive this election," Hogue said.

23. Check out the Flash attack ad above
I've won Hollywood awards for my work at Takebackthemedia.com

Not talking out of my ass here..

Trying to help, since so many have been sitting on their hands, I've made over 40 of these in the last 7 years - My "ARMY OF ONE" was showcased by MoveOn.org in NY City, where I stood to thunderous applause, under a spot light introduced by Michael Moore. The ad went on to play 3000 times on cable during the 2004 Dem Primaries. I've appeared on the O'Reilly show, Scarborough Twice, and Lou Dobbs..

like I said, not talking out of my ass.. :)

16. Tell that donor that Obama's strategists have changed their approach. Link--->
"An Obama adviser privy to the campaign's internal thinking on the matter says that, with less than two months before the election and with the realization that Republicans have achieved financial parity with Democrats, they hope that Democratic allies -- what another campaign aide termed 'the cavalry' -- with come to Obama's aid."

The bottom line: "Obama's campaign will no longer object to independent efforts that hammer John McCain, just as, in their mind, the McCain campaign has not objected to those efforts targeted at Obama."

"Quietly, Obama Campaign Calls In The Cavalry(527's)"

There's been a spurt of 527 activity on behalf of Sen. John McCain, but Barack Obama campaign has suddenly gone silent on the subject.

That's because, after of year of telling donors not to contribute to 527 groups, of encouraging strategists not to form them and of suggesting that outside messaging efforts would not be welcome in Obama's Democratic Party, Obama's strategists have changed their approach.

An Obama adviser privy to the campaign's internal thinking on the matter says that, with less than two months before the election and with the realization that Republicans have achieved financial parity with Democrats, they hope that Democratic allies -- what another campaign aide termed "the cavalry" -- with come to Obama's aid.

The Obama campaign can't ask donors to form outside groups; it can only communicate, through the public and the media, with body language, tells and hints.

The upshot: Obama's campaign will no longer object to independent efforts that hammer John McCain, just as, in their mind, the McCain campaign has not objected to those efforts targeted at Obama. "I assume with their 527s stirring, some ones will as well," another senior campaign official said.

The money is there. The top two 527s -- the Service Employees International Union and America Votes -- are liberal in orientation. The SEIU fund has contributed to other 527 efforts, and America Votes has earmarked most of its money for what it calls the "largest grassroots voter mobilization" in history. The third largest 527 -- American Solutions Winning the Future -- belongs to Newt Gingrich, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. The AFL-CIO has budgeted more than $53 million for messaging and turnout efforts and has run a limited flight of ads featuring veterans criticizing McCain. But they've shied away from larger-scale campaigns in part because they believe -- or believed -- that the Obama campaign did not want them mounted.

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/09/qu...

We need to get something up. I've been pissed by the lack of Obama ads compared to a number of McCain ads in my battleground state of Pennsylvania (I'm in Pittsburgh) area. I've seen a total of 1 Obama ad last 5 days compared to at least a dozen McCain ads. And McCain is all over the radio with zilch Obama ads.
