After Gov. Sarah “Community Organizers Don’t Do Real Work” Palin’s attack speech and Sen. John “I’m an Agent of Change Although I’ve Been in Congress 26 Years and Voted with W 90% of the Time” McCain’s speech of last week, there have been many calls for Dems to “take the gloves off.” Now that the conventions are over, is “get down and dirty” time. Because Dems have been characterized as too timid or too soft in challenging the Repug smear machine, I went looking on the Internet for possible training films that would show Dems how to counter Repug attacks. Since Repugs tend to say the same lies over and over until they’re accepted as “truth” by Americans, I had to find some film that would show how to stop a Repug lie quickly and effectively, before it went on to become “conventional wisdom.”
I came across this scene from a Hollywood movie, but before you see it, an explanation is necessary.
YouTube--"Casino"Robert Di Nero is the Obama/Biden campaign
Steve Schirripa (man at the bar) is any Repub who distorts Obama/Biden’s message with lies and misinformation, or any Repub who distracts from the real issues of the campaign by questioning Obama’s patriotism or experience or by throwing out into the public forum any irrelevant statement designed to blur the issues (“Swift Boat Veterans,” CorpMedia “reporters,” “Karl Rove wannabees” come to mind…)
Joe Pesci is the Democratic response to the Repub’s attempt to smear Obama/Biden with falsehoods.
Lesson starts around 0’35”. Here is the scenario: Obama/Biden (Di Nero) says “Let’s debate…(insert current issue here).” The Repub (Schirripa) sneers and replies with “Some people say…(insert smear here). Why do you hate America?!” Pesci (Democratic response) approaches Repub and corrects him.
Quick and effective. Now, I don’t condone violence, but I think we can all learn something from Pesci’s enthusiasm and resolve in setting the record straight.
Oh, and it appears the pen
is mightier than the sword!
