Palin continues to tell lie about trans-Alaskan pipeline
I found this story via the RawStory website.

Even today on the stump with John McCain, Palin continued to push forward a lie about her alleged success in concluding a "deal" to establish a natural gas pipeline across Alaska which would be, according to her, the largest private sector project of its kind in American history. That sounds real impressive to the ear of the American voter: "the largest private sector infrastructure project of its kind in American history". Actually there has been no deal struck. Palin is referring to a mere "license" given to the TransCanada company to build the pipeline as authorized by the state legislature during her tenure as Governor. But the license is just that, a license, a permit. It isn't a contract requiring the building of any pipeline at all and TransCanada can choose to do nothing with its license. TransCanada says it's still awaiting funding guarantees from Exxon/Mobil before it can go forward. This pipeline might not even be built for two decades, if at all (and there are many critics of this project in Alaskan politics). The article goes on to mention several other lies Palin is telling in connection with this alleged pipeline "deal".

"...Last week in her address to the nation, Palin stepped far over the line of truthiness (thanks Steven Colbert) when she told the country, "I fought to bring about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history. And when that deal was struck, we began a nearly forty billion dollar natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence."

Nothing could be further from the truth.

In fact the state has done little more to move the gas pipeline forward over the last twenty months than to grant a Canadian company $500 million to push paperwork with no guarantee a pipeline will be built. ..."

Again, Palin takes credit for striking a deal, where no deal was struck.
