But I can assure you Russert would have not allowed MTP to turn to the steaming pile of shit it's become with Brokaw at the helm, and pulled two of their most popular anchors from anchoring during the debates as a result of complaints from any candidate.

Fuck this.

1. It doesn't even make sense from a business perspective
The corporate masters must really want the message controlled. Only very obedient dogs are going to be let off their leash.

2. I absolutely agree.
I'm going to watch CNN. They've been challenging McCain/Palin more ever since Grampa cancelled on Larry King because of Campbell Brown's
questioning of Tucker Bounds.

6. That was clear from the NYtimes story - Not the anchor but one of the analysts
sounds appropriate as long as they keep Joe and Pat Buchannon from the seat as well

9. I see - still it's a worrisome development to me that a news organization can be pressured
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 09:32 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
to any extent. And this smells of pressure being exerted on the network corporate execs from the outside, although I can't prove it.

14. Kurt, dont you find this aspect of the NY Times article troubling?
The McCain campaign has filed letters of complaint to the news division about its coverage and openly tied MSNBC to it. Tension between the network and the campaign hit an apex the day Mr. McCain announced Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. MSNBC had reported Friday morning that Ms. Palin’s plane was enroute to the announcement and she was likely the pick. But McCain campaign officials warned the network off, with one official going so far as to say that all of the candidates on the short list were on their way — which MSNBC then reported.

10. The only reason this is an issue is because Russert is dead
otherwise he'd still be running the show and the coverage would really suck. The only reason that KO was allowed as large a role as he has had is because Russert is gone. Russert liked to appease the WH and the GOP. They were his friends. Russert would have praised the GOP and their 9/11 "tribute". KO had the guts to call them on it.

I heard both hear on DU and on Kurtz's show this morning that Browkaw has been bitching that KO and Matthews have gone too far.
