McCain Forgot: All Fundies Are NOT Created Equal!
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 01:52 PM by DemocracyInaction
I can tell you from my background of being raised by "pillars" of the church in the midwest (but not fundie)that there are things about Palin that turns a whole group of "the holier than thou religious nuts" off. Their thinking is: 1) What's she doing running for office..that's a man's business; 2) She should be staying home with that brood where she belongs; 3) If she stayed home and was a good mother she wouldn't have a pregnant teenager; 4) as the author of "Bush's Brain" pointed out, in his neck of the woods a teenage pregnancy is still a family "scandal". You win some, McCain; but you also lose a whole pack of 'em!

1. to many evangelicals, the speaking in tongues crowd is considered a dangerous cult
they dislike their extreme emotionalism and the fact that they make christians look like fools to the rest of society, particularly with their con men pastors like Jimmy Swaggart, Oral Roberts, Benny Hinn, and on and on.

3. Agree---Assembly of God is not looked upon as good
For mainstream Christians, the Assemby of God churches are looked upon as a cult of nuts. I had a friend 20 years ago that dropped a mainstream church and got herself and kids into this group. She became a looney and her kids (who were bright kids) grew up to be really crazy loosers. The husband (a highly educated man and a member of the city council) went a few times and couldn't take it. He said that he saw there a couple of the towns "perverts" for openers (that's when we didn't do anything about child molesters but "warn them"). He also (knew the community well) was appalled at all of the town "mentally unstable wackos" the police were dealing with there, etc. I don't know if they are still married. I mean she was seeing "demons" in the bathroom mirror after a shower, etc. He was beside himself.

2. Repukes confuse genuine fundies....
with those who wear it on their sleeve. I guess that is because the fake ones run the party.

5. Divide and conquer
It works very well pitting one fanatical religious faction against another. If you do have and very religious acquaintances you discuss politics with, be sure to narrow down EXACTLY what beliefs Palin's are -- Assembly of God. Methodists and Baptists and Episcopalians and Catholics need to know exactly who will be calling the shots when McCain's clock runs out early. Not someone with tolerance for their beliefs, but a fanatical nutcase who is likely to address the nation by speaking in tongues.
