Palin Underground, "Shock and Awe" or "The Fall of Saigon"?
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 09:38 AM by Bonobo
It's becoming increasingly clear that what we are witnessing is either a shockingly horrible mistake by McCain transforming into a brilliant move or remaining a shocking mistake.

OR

Is it a brilliant move, a daring "Hail Mary" pass to a wide open receiver that has a reasonably high chance of being picked off but is relying on the poor Defensive record of the Dems?

All over DU we are witnessing, in microcosm, what this Palin choice has done to the race. Like it or not, people have not yet been able to move beyond the shocking, somewhat disorienting reality of the whole thing. We are still seeing stars, us and the media. Neither of us can believe our good fortune, right?

I am still of the opinion that this is a huge, huge mistake. But I recognize that SOMETHING is happening. Frankly, it is weird. Weird, and a little scary to see that they have become so bold in their stupidity and so smug in their self-righteousness and so proud of their ignorance. They seem to know that WE know that the jig is up, so why even pretend.

That has some of us on edge. Nervous, like we're waiting for another foot to drop.

Is it the fear card again? Are they jangling the keys in front of the PTSD - 9/11 weary public on this coming dreadful anniversary?

Let's not let these terrorists win. Heads up, brothers and sisters. We got the power this time once we become aware of it. Give money, give time, talk to your family, talk to your friends, put up a sign, teach your kids, talk about it.

But there is no point in being ashamed that we are clearly obsessed with this issue. I wish we weren't. I wish I could say "Let's not talk about it." and everyone would listen. But clearly that is like telling a kid to stand in the corner and not think of elephants. But this will pass and the next phase will begin. She can run, but she cannot hide. Not 2 months.

1. Many DU'ers are just as stupid as the sheep they claim to better than. Karl Rove rang the Palin bell

and most DUers are the dogs salivating over it.

She is a distraction. A hunk of red meat thrown to bring the Culture Wars front and center.

Culture Wars= racism and fear and hatred. Emotions that are very difficult to counter effectively on a national basis.

If we continue allowing Rove's minions to dictate the narrative with Palin OBAMA WILL LOSE.

Too many DU'ers are shockingly like the pathetic Dems on tv who go on and on explaining this that or the other thing whilst the Republican just talks really loud repeating their talking points.

It's a fucking waste of time explaining Palin. She's not running for POTUS.

Nail McCain. Make him the front and center of all attacks.

He is the prisoner of the Far Right. THAT is how you reference Palin. Don't even talk about her directly. Don't mention her name.

2. If the scenario you describe reflects RW strategy so well
then why isn't the McAnus campaign getting her mug in front of the camera 24/7? Seems like if she's a Rovian distraction, wouldn't it be part of their strategy to get her in the media - busily distracting - instead of sequestering her and allowing McAnus to move front & center once again?

3. The vice-president pick is being educated.
I have my doubts she even knows how to hold her silverware properly.

4. You call us stupid. We call you collaborator.
You say she isn't running for President. This is technically correct. She is, however, running for "President minus one bad day for McCain", which is close enough that we damn well better pay attention to her.

Like I said: COLLABORATOR.

7. We have to talk about her
Admittedly, some of the issues being brought up border on the absurd. If she was a normal VP candidate, where she just sits in the background for 4-8 years, then we can probably focus our attention on McCain alone and pretty much ignore her. But this is not a normal election, and anyone who claims that we should be focusing only on McCain is deluding themselves. John McCain is very old, in ill health, and is applying for one of the most stressful jobs in the world. The basic facts are that if McCain wins, he could very likely die in office, and we will end up weth Sarah Palin as President. We absolutely need to squash her now, and if the media is unwilling to thoroughly investigate her, then we should keep raising every possible issue until they do.
