"Palin 'bridge to nowhere' line angers many Alaskans"

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - It garnered big applause in her first speech as Republican John McCain's vice presidential pick, but Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's assertion that she rejected Congressional funds for the so-called "bridge to nowhere" has upset many Alaskans.

During her first speech after being named as McCain's surprise pick as a running mate, Palin said she had told Congress "'thanks but no thanks' on that bridge to nowhere."

In the city Ketchikan, the planned site of the so-called "Bridge to Nowhere," political leaders of both parties said the claim was false and a betrayal of their community, because she had supported the bridge and the earmark for it secured by Alaska's Congressional delegation during her run for governor.

1. Didn't Palin take the $250 million allocated for the bridge and spend it
...on pet projects among her friends and supporters?

4. here you go

After some parliamentary skirmishes, congressional leaders agreed to kill earmarked funding for the Ketchikan bridge and another bridge near Anchorage, instead giving the state a lump sum of $454 million to spend as it saw fit.

5. another botched story about the bridge
Congress took so much heat because of the earmark for the bridge that they eliminated the earmark in Nov of 2005, a year before Palin took office. She didn't stand up to Congress and say no thanks, because the earmark no longer existed. She took the money Congress was offering for transportation projects of any sort and she spent it on transportation projects. And her rationale for giving up on building the bridge was that Alaska wouldn't be able to get federal money from Congress to pay for it.

7. Will Alaska swing Democrat this time?
Maybe if enough truth comes out they will be too ashamed to vote Republican. And maybe even get rid of her as Governor.

9. But you can't expect her to actually tell the truth, can you?
The truth would sink her ambitions.

12. Ideally, after her speech at the convention,
..the pundits would have said, "That was a terrible speech; she just lied to millions of people."

Instead, the pundits praised the speech.

13. tracy flick goes to washington
and takes on those corrupt bad guys...wait a minute - isn't this the plot to legally blonde 2, with same actress but different setting?

oh, it's so cute how palin's hockey mom story is just like a hollywood movie. I sure am glad to have Anyone running for office. the one difference I see though, is even Elle Woods and Tracy Flick answered questions for the press.

Viscous Barracuda (and song stealer) goes to Washington to clean American treasury out once and for all before racing her snow mobile back to Alaska, gun at the ready in case she gets hungry, to realize hubby's dream to secede from the nation with America's coffers hidden in her baby bump!

Ah, another excellent who done it thriller!

p.s. you remember that tracy flick wasn't averse to setting up her horny teacher....um...

:sarcasm:
